Couldn't sleep last night and fell into an NFG discography run. Resurrection is much better than I remember, and Radiosurgery was worse than I remember. I think I'd rank this new album higher than both.
DUDE.. This new album is like a step back in time for me in a good way... "Same Side Sitters" is sticking out to me right now.
Yeah I really like Same Side Sitters. The energy and the catchy melody win me over the cheesy lyrics.
Curious if the lyrics in this album are just bad or if its somehow intention. It seems odd that anyone would try and write bad lyrics but the the cheesy lyrics fit the equally cheesy album title lol.
I think the intention was to write lyrics reminiscent of Sticks and Stones in the same way that the whole album is trying to be reminiscent of that period, and I guess it's subjective whether deliberately attempting to be cheesy excuses it (the Man Overboard defence). Reminds me of a review critical of a recent blink-182 album - I think California? - that said Mark Hoppus didn't know if he was writing for teenagers or as one. For my money, there are many bands in this scene pumping out great lyrics on a consistent basis - I'm not sure that's a good enough excuse any more.
First listens album is quite good. Not a fan of the opener or closer but most in between is real solid. Best album by them in a while
I am a big fan of NFG and here is my album rating: 1. Coming Home 2. Catalyst 3. Radiosurgery & Stick and Stones 4. Not Without a Fight & Self Titled 5. Makes Me Sick & Nothing Gold can stay 6. Ressurection I think the new album will also be in 4th place
With all the negative reactions over the last few months, I'm actually pretty surprised by how much I like this album. The lyrics are just so cringy at points though. I could really do without that song about swiping on tinder. And I'd probably like More and More a lot more if I could get passed that "dozing off on facetime" opening line.
I just realized Catalyst isn’t on Spotify in Canada. No idea if it was recently removed or it was never there, but I just went to put it on and couldn’t find it.
