New album released today in Moscow. My fav tracks: Stay Awhile, Same Side, Like i never existed, the way you deserve, Trophy, Birthday song and Slipping away.. as well as a double chin, if you listen to it as a joke song. My fav moment on album is Birhday song guitar riff. I really like this
To be honest, while the lyrics on this album are REALLY bad, I've been listening to this album very regularly since it leaked. There's just plenty to like musically here, I think. I definitely think this one is better than Resurrection, which I personally think is their worst album, but it's still pretty low overall in their discography. I just think the instrumentals are really solid, and the hooks really are there for the most part. I don't like either of the slow songs, even though Slipping Away is one of the few songs on the album from a lyrical standpoint that aren't bad, along with Stay Awhile and The Way You Deserve. Having finally heard Same Side Sitters, it is a contender for having the worst lyrics on the album, and that's really saying something.... however, I really like the sound of it, that chorus melody is pretty darn good, and I quite like Jordan's vocal delivery. The "holding on to you" part is way too repetitive, though. I am struggling to understand what went wrong with the lyrics on this record. They've never had amazing lyrics, but I don't think they've ever had a record with distractingly bad lyrics like this. It reminds me of the awful lyrics on the new Neck Deep songs. I like the album overall, but I sincerely hope they do better with the lyrics on their next album, because this is not okay.
lyrics are the only negative of the album. Despite this, he has many instrumental and vocal hooks. It is interesting to look at this work in the original composition of the group with Steve Klein. I think that way he would be the band’s best album
I still think you could cut a few songs from this album and it would automatically be a much better record. Too early to say, but I might still prefer Resurrection over this by a small amount.
This isn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be based on reactions around here. Lyrics are not great, but I don’t look to New Found Glory for great lyrics.
There’s an incredible amount of positive fan reaction and praise in their Instagram comments about the album. Exact opposite of what’s happening in here haha. I’ll listen again today during my run. They don’t let me down when I need a pick-me-up. Gonna check out the show today too.
Listening for the first time now. Basically just gonna echo what everyone's been saying: the instrumentation is great, but man, some of these lyrics are offensively bad.
Slipping Away and Stay Awhile both rule. Still love GOAT and hope that becomes a set staple. A lot of filler but it’s a new NFG album and I’m thankful for that.
There's people already in the chat for the live stream. Wonder if they're gonna have any production with this or if it's gonna be them playing in the rehearsal space as is.
NFG was my favorite band for so long, but, like Makes Me Sick and Resurrection, this is doing absolutely nothing for me.
I think Makes Me Sick speaks to how good Aaron Sprinkle is as a producer. His fingerprints are all over that record and it's wonderful.
Kerrang thinks this is better than Sick so put that review on my irrelevant list Most reviews are on that list for me anyways though haha.
My takeaways from this are: there’s some decent hooks here, it’s pretty fun, most of it isn’t very memorable, the lyrics are terrible, and there’s some weird vocal melodies where I feel like they’re trying to cram too many words into a line. That’s about all I got from this.
As long as the band is happy that’s all that matters! It’s a fun record and I’m glad they’re having fun being a band!
Still feeling this way as well. It feels like they were close to hitting the typical NFG formula but it just didn't quite come together. Some really catchy hooks in a few spots that were for sure stuck in my head (which is to be expected from them), but I have a hard time remembering how a lot of them go because they are so damn wordy. Overall, I see this being okay but not something I'll probably come back to in the future. It says a lot when I sat with the album for months and realized I was missing two songs yet I was not at all pumped to track them down.
Honestly, Will Pugh's production on FTSTYS3 is the best they've ever sounded. I was kinda heartbroken they didn't have him produce this new album.
To be fair, I do rank Makes Me Sick a fair bit above both this and Resurrection, but still below the rest of their discography.
