Never got around to watching; I thought it had good ratings. What didn't you like about it?

Fun fact, I just started watching season 1 of The OC like last week, haha; don't think I watched it while I was in high school, but my friends at the time were obsessed with it

Just found out Only Murders in the Building season 2 debuts tomorrow, and I'm so ready for it. Hopefully I can finish it before Stranger Things on Friday

just super weird vibes, felt like a lot of blaming of Anthony for his own mental problems. There were several people saying they saw the signs that he might do something which I hate that in documentaries. If you saw the signs then why didn’t you help? The entire film just left a bad taste in my mouth like the person that made it didn’t actually like Anthony Bourdain.

It's just the first 2 episodes of the season, then weekly episodes thereafter

The first two seasons are absolute classics. Then it takes a massive nosedive in season 3 and has a few redeeming moments in season 4.
Get ready for the Oliver era coming up lol

Tbh I feel like the OC struggled by packing in SO much drama. Like season one is great and iconic but has like 3 seasons worth of drama I feel lol. They burned bright and fast.

I think that's probably why it was so popular; there is so much juicy gossip and drama in every episode, which is catnip to young teenager's brains, haha

The OC is always one of those shows that I can't believe didn't run for like 10 seasons. It was so, so popular - even at the end - and in that era there were so many shows like it that ran for long, and it always felt like The OC got cut short.

EDIT: Reading the Wiki, I guess I was wrong and the 4th season got really low ratings. I guess it was mainly popular in my 6th grade class.

The ratings plummeted in the middle of season 3. Partly because the storylines were dull, but mainly because it was directly up against Grey's Anatomy in their time slot, which was the hot new drama at the time.
I think in the season 1 heyday The OC was pulling 12 million viewers per episode, and by the time they pulled the plug it was only averaging 3 million.

Hey, what do I know? I guess I just remember it still feeling popular. I say this knowing that I still dropped off of watching it before it was cancelled.

I watched the OC because I’m from Chino and Ryan was from Chino. I remember the mayor being mad about the depiction of the city lol.

I never watched the OC because no one calls it "the orange county" and that was a dumb enough barrier for entry for me

Oh yes it was. I've been rewatching it lately and SO much of my young daydreaming fantasy of what teen life was like was formed from the OC. For better or worse it def formed a large part of my personality/identity. I wanted so badly to be a rebel without a cause who was taken in by a different family and get a new start, or for that to be one of my friends who would then live with me, but mostly I wanted it to be me lol. The ep where they stay overnight in the mall was literally the dream for me and all my friends. They rly tapped into that tween/teen brain well. The more iconic episodes were always a big conversation at school the next day

Like I don't do well with large bodies of water and can barely swim and I hate too much sun but I wanted so desparately to be a cute beach babe who surfed and hung with friends all day, and I blame the OC and Blue Crush for that lmao. I even remember doing a PowerPoint presentation on surfing. I'm from California originally and had a whole plan of being the rebel without a cause and being sent to live back in California with my family and be the main character. So thanks the OC, for all my most embarrassing teen personality traits

I'm actually going to California in a few weeks to do a 2 week solo road trip in an old baby blue VW van, haha, starting in LA and going up and down the PCH. Watching The OC may or may not be mental prep for my time there.....

  21. I was so enthralled with We Own The City that I'm finally starting The Wire. I think I started it many years ago but never kept with it.

No, but I am from the OC, and that is how we tend to refer to it over OC...however I think that probably came from the show. I frequently will say 'welcome to the OC, bitch' when I go back home.

When I went to college up in the bay any time I told someone where I was from they would reflexively go 'the OC?' So, I do think it was exclusively because of the show. Definitely not some regional colloquialism.
