It's alright. It's Jon Hamm doing Don Draper if he was in a Walter White or Ozark type situation.

I just felt like the "turn" that happens with Hamm's character halfway through the pilot felt very sudden and inorganic, just kinds came outta nowhere.

 

A spin-off limited series of four standalone episodes. But they’re good episodes! I agree the recent season was going through the motions a bit but it still had me cracking up. I just don’t understand why this show when there are other things on AppleTV that are more unknown and with presumably worse ratings.

Best show of the year so far. Best debut season since probably Shogun.

I dunno how to properly articulate it, it's a TV show that feels unapologetically TV in the most refreshing way. It feels how procedural dramas on network TV used to feel before "prestige" became dominant. Just incredibly well crafted TV that succeeds by nailing the basics and trusting it's audience's intelligence.

 

Maybe it’s the empathy?

 

So much TV came out at the same time that I haven't even started, but I know it's gonna be good when I do

 

It’s a pretty straight forward show that’s incredibly well made. It has great characters, mostly great writing, great performances and doesn’t do anything too wild or crazy story wise. Just solid all around.

 

I thought Mythic Quest already ended tbh, hence the spin off. That's honestly pretty cool of apple to let them close it out with an unexpected finale instead of letting people hang, though. I wish other streamers did that

 

I would have thought Jon Hamm would have been a bigger deal after mad men ended

 

He has been a pretty big deal. Even that messed up hazing thing that came out didn’t slow him down

 

He was great in Curb and that one Black Mirror episode. And in Fargo. It seems he only takes jobs he’s interested in, which I respect, but dude deserves bigger and better roles.

 

Yeah, I would say Jon Hamm is pretty big.

I don't want to start like, a big ol thinggggggggg but I feel like no one talks about Mad Men anymore in conversations of great shows, that moreso than any of the big peak shows, it fell into the ether

 

I love Mad Men and Jon Hamm. But I think Kirk was said above, he does what he wants to do which is respectable but I thought he could be even bigger

 

Did you watch episode 2?

I didn't love the pilot but I'm kinda curious where ep2 goes.

I think this is just because nobody has a way to watch it now unless you have AMC+. Which, lol.

 

Mad Men is talked about constantly. Books have been written about it and there are college courses on it.

I think Hamm’s career momentum as a star was a bit derailed by his drinking/rehab, which I think he said the mental aspect of playing Don Draper and going to that dark place contributed to, so he did lighter/more supporting stuff at a pretty relaxed pace
