losing $1B a year is insane. Having no ads is great for us consumers but they should probably look into adding ads/commercials if they dont want to lose money like that

 

It'd probably help if they used like 5% of that billion on marketing.

 

Yeah that's a lot. But y'all right, their ad presence is atrocious they need to step that up if they want to attract viewers.....because they DO have what I consider the top of the quality content right now. If I had to rank it would be:
Apple
HBO a close 2nd
Paramount (Sheridanverse ftw)
Amazon (although the shows can be far and few between, they're quality .. LotR, WoT, etc)
Netflix/Hulu/Peacock/etc are all the same really

 

First I got a free trial with my iPad purchase, then again when I upgraded my phone. And this most recent trial I'm on I just got a random email from Apple offering it again.

 

I'd put the Hulu/FX combo at the 3rd spot personally.

 

Apple will be fine lol. They don’t need to make money on streaming.

Except it means they'll starting cutting back more and we'll start losing good shows or good shows won't even get a chance to be made. No one gives a shit about Apple actually losing a billion

 

Depends on how it's being internally calculated, for years Apple didn't have really have separate PL statements. The idea being that if a product was a "loss" but was adding value that they sold more computers/phones/etc., that was fine. If they consider the services division as a whole as being a value add to their hardware products then "losing" a billion is relative:

If during the same timeframe their market cap goes up almost 30%? The investment in the services is probably worth it. They definitely lost more than that on a car project they never even did anything with.

 

I think the main issue is the entire tech industry is in the hole while we need to beg for a living wage and insurance

 

Ooh I totally forgot about the FX part. That selection definitely separates it from the bunch so imo while I dunno if it *beats* Paramount, I'd probably put them tied. Good call!

I just looked because I was interested and their profit last year was apparently over $180 billion and it was a 6% increase from the year before. It seems like they’re ok with throwing money at creatives and not seeing any return lol

Hmm I don't really remember, I got the iPad a couple of years ago but it definitely was through Amazon too. I feel like it just popped up as a notification in my Settings app on the device that I had Apple TV, Apple News and Apple Music trial offers because of the new device.

 

Im buying a new apple watch this weekend. Everything should be back to normal soon.

tbh would still probably prefer that over seeing the original version on a 4k tv, but yeah that's pretty rough lol

 

i get it's cheaper to do an AI upscale over a source copy upscale, but in an age where you can pause and control the playback speed of streaming content, they should know it's bound to look terrible if people look close enough
