I see new season of Reacher is out and also Zero Day, that new political thriller starring Robert De Niro and Lizzy Caplan.

 

I just, right now, learned these are two different shows

 

I’ve only seen a few seasons of his shows, and haven’t seen much big oil stuff, but there’s plenty of characters that are stand ins for conservative heroes. 1883 was pretty good though and avoided most of what made the other stuff I’ve watched bad, which is terribly written female characters and too much conservative cowboy cool guy. It’s only one season and focuses on the hardships of traveling the western US before it was developed so the cowboy stuff is tempered with loss and grief. Mayor of Kingstown was also a little different in that it’s more of a gritty crime show. He is able to pull great casts together and a lot of what I’ve seen is entertaining but mostly not my cup of tea.

 

Reacher is a fun show

 

that's fair. i think i'm a bit wary of watching anything that a fair number of conservatives would even remotely idolize, but i'm glad it's not all like that. i also just think his work is a bit overexposed - almost like there are too many Taylor Sheridan projects happening at one time. that's a bit of a turn-off, the same way it is for people like Ryan Murphy.

 

Oh I agree. Taylor Sheridan is not the voice we need right now lol and I don’t think there’s anyone making more tv content

maybe Shonda Rhimes too?

the only Ryan Murphy project i've "wanted" to watch is Pose (and i'll get around to it at some point). my partner's sister subjected us to Grotesquerie last month. the amount of wasted potential and meaningless soapboxing was really infuriating.

That is mainly just Landman. Yellowstone was fully libertarian coded though.

There is a very not subtle scene in Yellowstone where John Dutton encounters a bunch of Chinese national park tourist that accidentally wander onto his land and he lectures them about private property rights. "This is America, we don't share land here"

 

so many Taylor Sheridan and Ryan Murphy shows and yet Bryan Fuller can't get one show off the ground. this industry sucks.

 

Also HBO effectively ended their relationship with David Simon a few years ago and he hasn't gotten a show off the ground since.

I wanted the American leftist volunteers fighting in the Spanish Civil War limited series he was planning goddammit!

 

I feel so seen right now

 

First episode of Zero Day was really good

 

I'll check it out over the weekend!!
