I don't get why, like surely they could just use actual promo or stills from the film? It's not even like that's even saving money.

Because they want a thumbnail that is specifically tailored with prompts to fit all their marketing psychology data horseshit to theoretically catch the consumer's eye.

I feel like a recognizable picture from the film must be better for that surely. At least one with actual human faces. :crylaugh:

It's funny, about a decade ago there was this British speculative science fiction show on AMC called Humans, which was partly about the societal implications of androids taking over human labor. I remember one line where a character says something like "what do they expect all humans to just go make a living writing poetry? That is all that will be left!"

It's crazy how wrong people were about how AI was going to roll out and what sectors it was going to effect even just a decade ago. It's like in the early 2010's writers could even fathom that the creative economy would be one of the first things hit.

in their thinking, faces don't matter if nobody is a recognizable star and small details don't matter. It just needs to be framed and colorized in a way to catches attention, gives the person a vague idea of the film's tone, and gets them to click on it all backed by marketing research.

In their minds it's probably easier to put what they want into an AI prompt, rather than pay someone to go through the film looking for the perfect screenshot that conveys all of their bullshit datapoint psychobabble criteria.

That makes sense because when I tried to watch Penny Serenade on Prime once it was the shittiest quality I’ve ever seen on a streaming service

Finally got a library card and have Kanopy.

Man this selection is incredible ( BBC series, PBS docs, A24, Criterion Collection, tons of foreign films, ect) but I really hate this ticket system. You can easily blow through most of your tickets for the month just bingewatching one series. I know this is free, but I don't get the need to ration content like this.

Also blew through most of my Hoopla borrows in one week just on comics alone

If I recall correctly, there’s a fee anytime something is borrowed so it’s how they keep within their budget

Does your card give you access to Libby for comics and audiobooks?

Yes, I am actually reading a novel from Libby right now. Their comic collection isn't nearly as good as Hoopla's, so mainly it's just ebooks and audiobooks. Also with Libby I think you can take as out much stuff as you can at your physical library, but the downside is a lot of stuff you want isn't available and you got to place a hold.

The other thing I was looking forward to with my library card was a free NYT sub, but it turns out it doesn't work like that, it isn't an actual subscription. You get a code that gives you all access, but it expires daily, so you got to put in a new code from the library's website every day that you want to read the NYT.

  25. I’m liking the squid game competition show but my goodness stretching this to ten episodes is too much. I’m on episode 8 and I hope Ashley gets got for what she did on the bridge.
