  1. I finally got around to Rye Lane (Hulu). As someone who doesn't typically enjoy rom-coms, this one was really good.

This Telemarketers doc on Max is ducking crazy. Having worked at one, and knowing so many friends who worked at others it's 100000% accurate.

I started Telemarketers. I have worked in phone jobs since I was 17 years old, and I still do. Mostly legit marketing research survey stuff, but a few shady telemarketing places. I have never related more to a documentary than this. They got the culture of these places 100% correct.

" it was high school students, teachers trying to earn some extra money, and criminals, lots of criminals who couldn't get other jobs" that is on the money. Also I would say retired seniors trying to supplement their social Security is another big telemarketer demo too.

And yeah like they show here with Pat I have have seen people nod off at their desk headset on during calls more than once.

I know S2 of Australia just started, is there a New Zealand one as well?

Loved the first seasons of the US, UK, and Australia Traitors. Can’t wait to watch more

I’ve never met someone who is/was a telemarketer in my life. They, like birds, are not real.

  10. Today alone, I’ve had over 5 telemarketer calls. I’m on some kind of list and it’s annoying, but it’s fun making them mad.

I worked for a shady place owned by the Scientologists whose racket was taking over the billing on people's power and utilities, and then jacking up their prices.

Then I worked for this B2B place whose racket was convincing businesses who wanted to obtain federal contractor status to pay us to fill out paperwork they easily just do themselves.

I was a telemarketer and I can’t even remember what the hell I was calling people for. It was during the recession and it paid more than minimum wage so it was a lot of new college grads and anyone else that could get the job. It was so dystopian though from the blank computer screen to the plain office to the script for the calls. I remember the days felt so long it was like a form of torture. It’s been so long and it was such a uniquely bad experience that it seems like a bad dream more than a memory

I STILL get the calls about donating to police and fire funds. It’s insane.

But yeah, they really captured something special here, from the real-life characters like Pat to having the foresight to document all of this since the mid-to-late Aughts. And as others have said, it gets the whole vibe perfect.

I worked at a call center for my college, basically begging graduates who are up to their eyes in debt to donate to our alumni association. It was just broke college kids and newly released convicts. One guy next to me would just rattle off wrestling and pop-punk knowledge and the other guy went on to win a Super Bowl ring with the Saints.

one of my former team leads played football for Notre Dame and had a 1988 NCAA Championship ring he would wear everyday. Then I looked him up and couldn't find him on any roster lists at all.

Yeah there sure is! According to the site I use for my calendar of new episodes premiering, it looks like Australia has 4 episodes now. I def plan on watching the first episode or two to see how it holds, I'm hoping it's just as good as the others.

I wasn't a telemarketer per say, but I did have a work-study job at the phoneathon at my college soliciting alumni for donations and I felt pretty shitty and annoying for it. But I got to do it with my roommate and we just fucked around half the time so it was chill enough.

Like, it's bad enough you charge students $40k a semester, but now you're asking for more from them? Lol

When people say they get telemarketer calls, does that mean you answer your cell phone for all unknown numbers, or that they leave voicemails? ‘Cause I never answer unknown numbers

Sometimes I answer now that they impersonate phone numbers from my area code, or sometimes they leave a voicemail.

It's usually someone from a foreign country claiming to be from the "student loan forgiveness center"

I worked for Maritz for a bit calling people about their experience with renting cars from Enterprise. People thought I was trying to sell them stuff all the time. Don’t really remember anything negative from that other than getting fired for wearing shorts to work one day.

And then years later I recruited for the Army for three years (and during Covid outbreak)… now that… that has some hilarious and sad memories from phone calls and texts I’d get.

I’d never want to do either again.
