I saw a TikTok of them saying fuck the 1975 before starting a song and I thought that was hilarious given their history.

This is a surprisingly refreshing pop punk album. Almost immediately their best since Life’s Not Out To Get You.

Solid album, just wall to wall pop punk and sometimes you need that

    frustratingly unambitious for my tastes

Band has been stagnant for a long time. This just sounds like more of the same. Incredibly boring and mediocre pop punk. It’s kind of surprising they still draw as well as they do. There’s so many bands in the same scene making much more interesting music. Bands like Hot Mulligan, TSSF and TWY have evolved as they’ve aged while Neck Deep is still making the same music they made 10 years ago except worse. The lyrics are absolute cringe.

a lot of bands still make the music they made 10 years ago, bayside, silverstein, nfg, yellowcard, etc etc

IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!

The difference is all of those bands you’ve listed made far better music than Neck Deep has with the exception of NFG’s last album and have been pretty consistent. YC, Bayside and Silverstein are releasing some of the best music they’ve ever released while experimenting with their sound. I’d argue Neck Deep’s songwriting has actually regressed greatly since Life’s Not Out To Get You.

well members have been switched out since their incarnation, whose original now ben and matt? that could be why its different now for you? i fuck with the new album, its a fun pop punk album! i got what i wanted out of it, plus i already like it a lot better than their last record, i didnt really get into that one

Whilst I definitely agree that Neck Deep make some pretty safe/generic pop punk in general, I think The Peace & The Panic has some of their best songwriting (In Bloom, Wish You Were Here etc.) but that might just be the subject matter getting to me

This isn’t reinventing any wheel, but it scratches the same itch State Champs did for me last year. Comfort food pop punk.
