The Safdies are basically the A24 Paul Thomas Anderson. They are big comedy guys that happen to make intense, and often strange character pieces.
I just happened to watch the last half of Punch Drunk Love today as it was on tv (haven’t seen it in years) and it totally reminded me of Uncut Gems in the more exciting, fast paced parts with Sandler’s acting and the score
Showed my girlfriend this show for the first time yesterday and I’m pretty sure she thinks less of me now
My girlfriend was very uncomfortable the first few times she sat down next to me while I was watching it, but it grew on her within a week and now she thinks it's hysterical
yeah it's too much for my wife too, she's seen some of it and thinks it's funny, but too uncomfortable to really watch
Downloading the whole thing before ISPs get overloaded from the demands of the western world in quarantine
A woman I had a crush on is the one who introduced the show to me, actually. And now years later she’s engaged to someone else. :)
I have a very low tolerance for uncomfortable/cringe humor and this show physically hurts me, but it's also funny enough to power through it. I can't fault somebody for not getting into it immediately
I can't get enough of this type of humor. I can see how it's not for everyone. I'm just at the polar opposite end of that spectrum.
I'm surprised I love this show as much as I do because I normally cannot handle cringey things at all. I usually just close my eyes, groan and feel embarrassed for them
I only got into this show because someone showed it to me. Friend of mine in college just always had Comedy Central on in his dorm room and so he basically accidentally watched the series premiere and then the next day told me I had to watch this show and I think I liked it even more than him. Eternally grateful!
Remains my favorite comedy of all time. I’ve never in my life laughed harder than the dragon in the lobby.
