I think the lack of drama might be down to Scott wanting to cover many different events, and keep the focus on Napoleon himself and allow us to see how childish, and impulsive, the man was, but also at how brilliant (most of the time) he was at war strategy. I guess there wasn’t one single event in his life that really dramatically changed things, where you could have introduced some drama. Although I guess you could argue the failed Russia campaign was that; amazing how little time they spent on that.

Then again, we’re supposedly getting a 4-hour cut of the film when it hits streaming, which might fill in many of the gaps, and therefore bring more life and drama to many of the events. This might be a situation like what happened to Kingdom of Heaven, where the theatre version was panned, but the director’s cut was almost a completely different film. Guess we’ll see

I went to see it yesterday and left like 20 minutes in. I was not in the mood for a boring 3 hour movie set in France in the 1700s.

    Things have changed.

Didn’t like this much, also, I got a weird Michael Scott vibe from Joaquin Phoenix’s performance.

Need to watch the 4 hour cut, this didn’t really feel cohesive at all.

I agree he tried to cover too much. If you want focus on the character over the whole time line, historical epic is the wrong genre, you need to barry lyndon it.

Yeah, I think this would have worked much better as a 10-part miniseries

This and “SUBLIME!” from Barbie are for sure the hardest I’ve laughed in a theater this year.
