I’m replying to everyone hating on this season bc it’s not as “deep” as last season. Just kinda annoying bc it’s STILL very funny. It’s not suddenly bad or cringeworthy just bc there isn’t as much of a dramatic slant. Those few episodes were special and we’re lucky we got them but this show has always been mainly comedy!
This season has been, in my opinion, significantly less funny as well as less interesting in terms of character development than the prior two seasons. I’ll stick with it because i like a lot of the characters/actors, but the writing feels like it’s been on autopilot for 75% of the season. Doesnt mean it sucks (although for the love of god, stop talking about NFTs), but i don’t have to enjoy a show just because it exists, either. It feels like so little has happened at this point in the season compared to the prior two. We’ve learned very little about the characters, who feel like caricatures of themselves (Poppy, David, Rachel, and Jo especially). The most compelling part of the season has probably been changing roles and their impact (or lack thereof) on existing power dynamics. Aside from that though, it’s been just kinda blah by and large. I’ve not watched the most recent episode, and the couple before were a step up, so maybe that trend keeps going and i wind up liking the season pretty well.
I just think this season is worse than the first two, by far, but not for the reasons you mention. Its still pretty funny, not nowhere near how it used to be
And as it turns out, i actually really enjoyed the most recent episode! The last ten minutes especially. Felt like a return to form. I think that a thing this show does really well when it’s firing on all cylinders compared to other shows is allow the characters to be really harsh with each other. When Poppy walks out onto the rooftop and Ian says “shut the fuck up”, there’s nothing cute or charming or funny to deflect from how frustrated they are with each other. That emotion is what separates this show from countless other workplace comedies.
this last episode was really good, I actually recoiled a bit at the "shut the fuck up". that whole fight was raw, ugly and nasty, nothing funny or irreverent about it I think this season really picked up in the last 3 episodes. the run from 3-5 was truly mind-numbingly dull and almost completely irrelevant, I feel like I could have skipped from episode 2 to the Christmas one and missed absolutely nothing. still comfortably the weakest season but I feel like it's heading for a pretty powerful ending now
Last episode was great, especially the end. I’m really not seeing the drop in quality. The only thing that feels “off” is the new office being visually really ugly. Seeing two characters talk in front of a brightly lit sheer white background just looks cheap
new episode was perfectly fine once again. loved David staring down Ian and the Always Sunny cameos, everything else was deeply okay
thought the finale was decent, set up an interesting s4 at least Poppy and Ian just coming back to MQ after accomplishing nothing all season was wack, at least the reconciliation scene was nicely played though. same with the movie plotline going absolutely nowhere after 10 episodes, they clearly just needed something for David to do that wouldn't affect the actual plot. still hate Rachel just basically becoming a different character overnight but Dana/Jo/Brad has some promise. hope they keep Uncle Jack and the Waiter around for s4 and give Sue actually something to do a true 5/10 season overall but will have been worth it if s4 is a heater
Yeah idk this was definitely the weakest finale. I couldn’t believe where the episode ended. Still have enough residual love from the first two seasons, and the back stretch of this season stepped up, but pretty let down overall. Season 4 could be interesting, but it basically undercuts the entire gravity of the way season 2 ended, including CW’s walk with them that lead to their realization that they needed to leave MQ.
I feel like no one here has talked about the Brad storyline haha, I thought it was pretty decent although always kinda put in the background (Saying this right before watching the finale)
I enjoyed the finale. Having a season that doesn't really move the plot along that much just gives the show legs (and honestly could see this going 10 seasons). Poppy the real MVP of the season
finale was a bit weak, felt rushed. Still really enjoyed the season overall. I like the set up for next season
