It's Lovers. But everything else on that list (except Black Moon which I barely consider a Deftones song) is great. Crenshaw Punch especially.
Teething Although if we’re including an alt version of “Teenager” then I don’t know why we don’t have the acoustic version of “Be Quiet” - takes one of the best songs in their discography and elevates it to a whole nother level of transcendent beauty.
Haha, well if you’re open I’ve got my fair share of production hot takes for you! When it comes to Chorus in general, I generally get most annoyed when I see folks complaining about rough and caustic recordings when it seems obvious to me that those abrasive qualities are entirely the point! (Namely thinking of Say Anything’s last album and letlive’s The Blackest Beautiful.) As far Deftones go though, I’m not crazy about S/T’s production either. It has this weird crackling, tinny quality to me that I think helps the heaviest songs but really detracts from the rest of the record. On the other hand, I’ve seen others complain to varying degrees about the production on SNW, KNY, and Diamond Eyes, which boggles my mind - each of those records sound amazing to me.
I know it hasn’t been 24 hours, but there’s a decisive winner and I have a lot of meetings today and tomorrow so the next two rounds will go from about 6 AM ET to 6 AM ET. Lovers wins the b-sides round and will advance to the championship bracket. Final Totals: Lovers - 8 Smile - 3 Can’t Even Breathe - 1 Teething - 1 Black Moon - 0 Teenager (Idiot Version) - 0 Crenshaw Punch/I’ll Throw Rocks At You - 0 The wild card bracket will be posted shortly!
