Round One Final Totals: Lucky You - 1 Needles And Pins - 16 Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event - 6 Battle-Axe - 11 Good Morning Beautiful - 8 Bloody Cape - 9 ---------------------- Round Two: 1) Needles And Pins vs. Hexagram 2) Moana vs. When Girls Telephone Boys 3) Battle-Axe vs. Deathblow 4) Bloody Cape vs. Minerva Round Two begins now!
Hexagram When Girls Telephone Boys Deathblow Bloody Cape Last matchup was very hard, I’m basically picking Bloody Cape mostly bc I know it won’t win, but also that ending is an album highlight.
now listen folks I love Battle Axe as much as the next guy but if it beats Deathblow y'all can get bent
Hexagram WGTB Battle Axe Minerva One of best things about this record, although I think it probably put some people off initially, is that when it roars, it ROARS! Deathblow is a great example; the guitars on that chorus are almost obnoxious - it's unnecessary the way they blare in the mix. The same with Hexagram when it kicks in, as with Needles and Pins and Minerva and WGTB and Battle Axe and basically every song on the record. And yet for some reason, because of the mood and the tone of the whole thing, it just works. You can tell they were starting to lose their minds a little around this time and even the lighter songs have a certain moody tension to them but somehow the disconnect makes the record even better and more visceral and moody and a little uneasy at times. It works in a way that, to me, Saturday Night Wrist doesn't quite. It's just one of my favourite Deftones records.
Current Totals: Needles And Pins - 1 Hexagram - 9 Moana - 2 When Girls Telephone Boys - 8 Battle-Axe - 5 Deathblow - 5 Bloody Cape - 2 Minerva - 8
Hexagram When Girls Telephone Boys Battle-Axe Bloody Cape “Deathblow” and “Battle-Axe” is the most boring match up on here - BA edges it out with an actual riff and marginally memorable chorus.
I almost feel bad cause I’d vote for Needles and Pins over any other song besides Sexy ol Hexy. Almost.
Nobody sleep on Saturday Night Wrist rounds. That album has 1 or 2 standout amazing tracks, and then the rest are all good-great.
That on most of the other albums there are 1–3 tracks that I usually don’t return to, while loving everything else. With SNW, I don’t think it’s their most mind-blowing release but it’s a solid full album that I like as a front-to-back playthrough. I think it’s the most evenly leveled album they have.
I’m staking my claim right now that the SNW round will be the hardest for me, and that I am the only person here who will have a difficult time voting against “Pink Cellphone.”
I won't have trouble voting against Pink Cellphone, but otherwise it will be the hardest for me too. I love every other track on that album. Anyway. Hexagram When Girls Telephone Boys Battle-Axe Bloody Cape
Hexagram vs Needles and Pins is brutal, but it makes me sad to see so many of you on the wrong side. Needles and Pins When Girls Telephone Boys Deathblow Minerva
