Had no idea that Bo & Carl were the first to try out when they looked for new band members. That’s absolutely wild.

Also, as someone who attended one of those shows at Red Rocks in 2019 that helped rejuvenate the band I’d just like to say, you’re welcome everyone.

Even with how much I've been anticipating this album for years and years now, I was not fully prepared for how fucking amazing it is.

Anything I say about it right now is just going to sound silly.

I want to say that this album is the musical equivalent of love at first sight because of how much I loved every note of it so deeply and so immediately, but I think it's more like the feeling of having been separated from someone that you love dearly and then finding yourself back with them.

I heard little bits and pieces and sounds that play and build off of literally everything they have done up until this point but it also sounds completely fresh and exhilarating. The title of this album is so fitting. I'm done for now.

Just finished my first run and this thing is special. The stretch from In Color through The Devil's in the Details is such an impeccable combination of lyrics and musicianship. It feels like the heart of the record & puts the rest of the LP in the right context for me. I hear what you're saying @Brother Beck about this thing containing subtle and deliberate traces of everything they've done throughout their career, but it all feels new and refreshed.

After the first spin, I think Least Expected is my favorite.

I’m with you but they aren’t anywhere close to “skippable” for me or anything.

  18. Went to go pick up my pre-order at my local record store and noticed that they had the 20th anniversary reissue of At Dawn still in stock as well as a cool smoke colored variant of it still moves so of course I spent too much money

I'm also getting back into the vinyl game after not having a good setup for a couple years so that's how we're going to justify it

5.0? Dude seems overly harsh. There are definitely some goofy songs on this that deserve criticism, though I’m too blind not to love them all myself, but In Color is definitely not one of em.

  21. Gotta be honest, there are few things I can imagine caring less about than what Ian Cohen thinks of an MMJ record in 2021 hahaha

Ian Cohen does actually like MMJ a lot. Agreed that a 5 is a little low.

Yeah, I really don't think there are any goofy songs on this. If anything, they finally got away from their trend in recent years of filling up their albums with short little ditties like Outta My System or Climbing The Ladder, and actually letting the full band stretch out and show some of their potential on the album itself. There are a few goofy moments, like whatever the hell happens with Jim James' voice at the end of complex, but I wouldn't say that entire song is goofy, and that's probably the weakest track on the entire album. The whole band feels dialed in and as tight as ever, even if the songs are long. I disagree wholeheartedly with almost every single point he makes in that review.

I was curious what he had to say about the album once someone mentioned that he's actually a My Morning Jacket fan. This album is such a solid return to form for them that I wanted to hear what critiques he had.

No offence to Tucker Martine, who I'm sure is a fine producer, but I was going to be heartbroken if they recorded with him again for this new album. I wanted to see them change it up and get away from what they had been doing on the last few (2 or 3, depending on how you look at it) albums.
