ah yes true the greatest musician of all time put out a great record when he knew he was dying and wouldn't get another chance, something jim can strive towards
it's fine if you're over them / him, but it's kinda silly to say he doesn't have any good albums left in him to me they seem rejuvenated lately, and if they match up with a producer that gets them more and plays to their strengths, instead of actively going against them, I don't see any reason they can't or won't knock another few albums out of the park
but you also said the last good record Jim will ever write is Uniform Distortion - this one gives me hope for them in the future
PS Die For It is also a great track off this. There’s chatter out there that it’s close to a Steve Miller Band track but I’ve yet to hear it
i agree with @DaydreamNation that i don't like the arrangement of it on the record. feels almost like it should be a heartbreakers-esque song instead of what they did with it so id rather hear it solo than with the arrangement on the record or just give me the original cut from the Z sessions haha
Caught Grace Cummings tonight in Nashville in a small venue with about 50 other people. She mentioned she just arrived in the states for a run of dates opening for MMJ. Figured I’d pop over here and recommend getting there early to catch her set bc her and her band were very impressive. She is an oddball, but she might be the best live singer I’ve ever heard. Her albums are pretty good but they do not do her and her band justice.
headed back home to kentucky for the homecoming shows this weekend, can't fucking wait and I am rarely excited to go back to kentucky lol
she did a wild version of knockin on heavens door with them last week in athens oh all the soundboards from this show have sounded amazing so far. they continue to kill it live--even the crappiest new songs have more air and live in em from what i've heard haha
Feeling this a lot more today—possibly cope because I’m gonna hear a lot of these songs in the next wk tho haha. First 3 songs in particular are pretty good
Ill be there for the Saturday show. I havent been to one of their shows since Circuital era, so Im excited to hear some of the newer songs.
22 min Dondante tonight was maybe the best I’ve seen Prince cover, Dead cover, Honest Man, and Jim playing Bermuda Highway unplugged when the PA went out were other highlights (among many)
