yeah, that coupled with his vocals which pretty much always had some amount of billy corgan affectations on it make it almost uncanny. didn't know he was a fan though which might make the similarities intentional. love both those songs a lot, kind of wish mcr had gone in a summertime/kids from yesterday direction tbh.

saaaaaaaaaaaaame the way they bring in the cure influence with the synth touches and vibes from the more low key pumpkins songs is just pure musical bliss for me parts of Gerard's solo album neared that sound but that album was more of a love letter to 90s brit pop if anything
Extremely perplexed that Bulletproof Heart made it this far Okay, I guess not really since I voted for it last round, but it shouldn’t have beaten Party Poison
Save Yourself is the biggest surprise of the whole bracket thing for me. Easily my least favourite song on an MCR album and yet people seem to love it, haha.
yeah, i got the cure vibes too, but i couldn't tie it to a specific song like i could with 1979 so i didn't say anything. it works surprisingly well, it's kind of startling how easily the knocked it out of the park on those songs. i really gotta relisten to his solo album, it's been a while and my tastes have definitely changed for the better since i last heard it. i still haven't really delved into britpop as a whole but im sure i would heavily enjoy his album a lot more than i did when it first came out. i had almost this exact sequence of thoughts hahaha
I started revisiting it around summer 2016 when I went on a massive MCR binge due to the reunion rumors and it played way better for me than it did back when it came out. Really great album, and I think having more of the context of what he was going for helped me love it more too
I love his solo album, "How It's Going to Be", "No Shows" and "Drugstore Perfume" in particular are fantastic.
