Had no idea the hounding was so bad. Hope everyone who took time out of their day to make a stranger's life worse feels great about where things ended up.

Nobody deserves to go out like that. Sure, by all accounts he sounds like he was a horrible person who's said some inexcusable shit (the above posts), and not speaking ill of the dead extends to how they were when alive, but I'll say it again: nobody deserves to go out like that.

Yeah, it feels kind of gross to pile on someone who just died that by all accounts was suffering from extreme mental illness and paying for some really shitty decisions he made. The “he was a Trump voter who had shitty beliefs so he deserved it” views are pretty fucked if you ask me, but that’s also what our country has come to sadly.

It's awful and terrifying to think of dying so alone that no one knows you're dead for such an extended period of time.

Honestly it makes me sad and scares me that you think he deserved to die because of that tweet. Even if he had said what you're saying (which I think he didn't, as it seems you're referring to an undeniably inexcusable anti-BLM tweet, but you're being reductive with your portrayal of it), it's fucking scary that you think he deserved to die because of it.

Where is your humanity? Like most people, I have family (parents included) with questionable political views, and frankly, poor mental health. Do they deserve to die because of their views, or the way they might voice them?

Time to log off for me, I think!

Trust me, I do too; I’m a very empathetic and sympathetic person who is legitimately highly sensitive. It’s a tricky subject. I have a fucking Nazi brother that is an addict (I’m also an addict) with severe mental health issues, but it’s hard for me to feel sympathy for Nazis because of “ignroance” and “mental health.” I have mental health issues as well and left a cult I was fully indoctrinated in at one point, but you know what? I was never a fucking bigot despite the beliefs that were pumped into my brain since childbirth. Believe I’ve said this on this site before, but if I had three wishes, one would be for every bigot, racist, homophobe, transphobe, xenophobe, etc. that doesn’t truly want to be educated or changed to drop dead. I wouldn’t feel bad for whoever that took out because the world would be a better place. If my brother went like that, of course I’d have feelings about it, but I’m not gonna shed tears or throw out a RIP, especially for someone throwing out transphobic slurs days before they go.

i'm not asking you to be tolerant of intolerance. i'm asking you to agree with me that people do not deserve to die for things that they say or believe, no matter how atrocious.

it is an incredibly low bar and if you cannot meet it, i hope that you can eventually heal whatever is damaged within you.

Would you feel bad for an Israeli/Zionist that took glee in Palestinian deaths if they were to die? “Deserve” is one thing and loaded, I’m not saying that, but I’m not feeling bad for the loss either.

the palestinian genocide is an ongoing war and genocide that is orders of magnitude more horrific than anything else going on in the world at present, and it is cheap to bring that into this conversation over someone tweeting beliefs that, while atrocious, are not even remotely close to a person hypothetically expressing glee over a genocide they are actively perpetuating.

if you cannot distinguish between these, if everything blurs into one homogenous blob of resentment, then while i appreciate where you're coming from, please see my last comment. i hope you heal.

you don’t think he was glad when black people died at the hands of the police? How do you think he truly felt about George Floyd? Why do you think he wished for MORE deaths? There’s an overlap to these beliefs.

reading that reddit post, there is such a familiar vein of very male loneliness in it. 44 is just no age to go.

if your first or principal reaction to learning about these events is to say some kneejerk variation of "fuck this asshole" and not, I don't know, to wonder about how long your own body will take to be noticed when you die, think about how connected you are to others in actual real life, etc, then perhaps you do not value human life as much as you think you do

I think the internet attention economy has encouraged people to engage in performative cruelty online, while also finding a socially acceptable "woke" way to do it. That's why so many people are celebrating Bob's death, not because the world is actually meaningfully better without him, but because he's considered an acceptable target of people's base desire for cruelty, because he was a considered "bad person".

I'm just no longer ideologically interested in whether or not anyone is a "good/bad person" it just isn't a useful or quantifiable assessment. I think it's important to gauge whether the amount of harm someone has caused is proportional to our desire to see them suffer, and I just don't see that here.

Bob obviously had many abhorrent, awful opinions and statements, but ultimately he's not Trump. He's not even Ronnie Radke. He was a lonely jackass, who drove away everyone who loved him, and had no remaining fans. He wasn't the cause of any bigotry or violence, he was the symptom of a larger political machine of bigotry.

That doesn't make anything he said okay, he obviously caused many people hurt, and I will never tell marginalized people they need to mourn someone who wished them harm. But I personally think it's super sad he never got to turn his life around, and instead will always be remembered for the person he was at his lowest point.
