If we weren't doing brackets right now in the MCR thread, this thread would be on like Page 14 of this website and no one would have been discussing anything in here at all for weeks or months. Also, I thought JEW was going to be the next bracket and then we got this surprise MCR one (I'm not complaining).
All I know is late October (when I have more free time) I'm planning to start a Motion City one if I can get interest.
I've thought of this, but I promise you we will still get people bitching that brackets are taking up too many of the threads at the top of the page. People really have it out for brackets.
yeah you're definitely not gonna win with bracket rage, best to just do it and have fun whilst doing so
I stopped viewing a lot of threads lately because of the brackets stuff. Kinda ruins the discussion vibe, to say the least.
I don't want to come across as negative but really what is the fascination with brackets? I know a lot of these have been for fairly inactive bands but I'm still curious why everyone wants to do them
If we make a bracket thread, since I started them with the OG Blink one we should name it 'BTDandBracketThis'
I just think it's fun. It's as simple as that. I've always liked lists and ranking things, so it's kind of a natural extension of that. It also makes me visit music I never gave enough time to from a band I like or revisit stuff I haven't listened to in a long time. I definitely wouldn't have listened to Bullets this year at all if it wasn't for this game, and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed giving the album a more proper spin than I did when I was younger.
I like the brackets because it gets people talking about specific parts within songs that don’t really get talked about once an albums release has died down. I want everyone to know why the second verse melody makes me like one song better than the other despite how great the other’s chorus is.
As for me running them, I like seeing the discussions they generate with people revisiting old songs and trying to predict which one will win a match.
See, I understand that argument and certainly welcome it because I love discussing the songs in-depth as well. However, I feel like almost everyone drops their list and leaves
I just don't get why it's so bothersome to people, and everyone says it ends discussion, but I just simply don't find that true. It just focuses the discussion on one thing at a time. I mean yea you have to scroll past a lot of votes, but it's really not hard to tell which posts are just votes and which are actual discussion.
I find it fun to go back through old albums and see what the general consensus for the best songs are and how other peoples opinions line up with my own. It also breeds discussion about albums and songs that probably wouldn't happen otherwise.
Yea I mean I would agree there could certainly be more of it, but as others have said I think the pros outweigh the cons
TBS is the perfect example. That thread was DEAD until our brackets God @BTDandFeelingThis added his magic to it
Not really - if you don't follow a thread avidly, you find the latest posts are just endless song names. For a casual viewer, it suddenly makes navigating a thread a chore. Also, it's essentially a glorified poll, and using individual replies as a way of doing polls is a bit backwards, no? Use an actual poll, surely.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but a lot of us do avidly follow the thread, and so if people don't want to keep up, that's fine, but it's not really our job to accommodate them. And it's kind of hypocritical to say it stifles discussion if you're not actively participating in the discussion anyway, and any discussion requires people to keep up, otherwise people just come flying in with random comments and there's no cohesion. Edit: this feels harsh. I hope I don't sound like a jerk. It's just tiring to have people constantly angry about something so inconsequential.
