Gonna get flamed for this probably but I dunno what the hell they're doing playing five danger days songs at a festival anyway. Good for them, play what you wanna play, etc etc but they gotta know that a crowd like that isn't gonna be into it right?
Tbh I agree with you. And I’m a huge danger days defender. Personally, getting Planetary and Summertime was amazing for myself. But yeah the crowd ONLY seemed to go off during Three Cheers and Black Parade songs. Which tbh kinda sucked, cause I know the solo shows would’ve been full of die hards going hard to EVERY song. I made the choice to go to Firefly cause I’d also be getting Weezer and Avril (who absolutely fucking crushed it holy shit), but I absolutely should’ve made one of the solo shows my priority and firefly a bonus little extra.
For some strange reason I feel like they’d do an album play at one of the WWWY shows, since they’re multiple shows
I am very much a 3 cheers and black parade only kind of person but I still had a blast at the show because of how fucking hype everyone else was. Their reactions made me want to actually check out the songs I didn’t know lol
I doubt they'll do any full album shows atm. I'm still hoping they will do one day though, I'd do anything to see a Bullets/Revenge show.
That miiiiiight go slightly better since it is so much more specifically tailored towards the old scene to begin with? So hopefully people have more than a passing familiarity with the entire catalog. At least that’s what I hope, cause im going to that as well. Cope lol.
Huge props to them for playing whatever the fuck they want and not tailoring their setlists to the normies even at a festival. That's a terrible disease that has infected most 'legacy acts' and it needs to be eliminated.
I guess to be fair I’d be singing a different tune if they played seven bullets songs at a festival or something lol, I just don’t like DD as much
I agree with the sentiment but crowd reaction does affect how hype and fun a show can be. And unfortunately at festivals normies are gonna be the majority. but I mean yeah fuck everyone I got Planetary and Summertime and Boy Division. Like half of my pie in the sky dream requests.
What’s the PC term for straight but very clearly into Gerard and only Gerard? Because god damn that man.
I am slightly upset there was limited merch. If anyone at the Florida show tonight is grabbing merch, I would greatly appreciate if the castle shirt and the pool boy one if they have it could be grabbed! I’d obviously pay whatever it costs to ship it to me too.
Do they have that many songs that casual listeners know? I'm Not OK, Helena, Black Parade, Teenagers? Other than those, I would think almost everything would be a deep cut to a festival crowd.
Those are the big ones, yeah. But I'd wager a higher percentage of the general audience knows the early shit, because they had an emo phase or whatever.
My non-MCR-fan friends looked at the setlist after I got back from the NJ show on Tuesday, and they all only knew those exact songs. So yeah, you’re totally right.
If they were catering to casuals it would be like mostly Black Parade songs + Helena, Not Okay, To the End, The Ghost of You, Sing, and Nanana
Yeah, The Black Parade was enormous. Everyone was listening to that album so while it’s not all hits, most music fans (of any genre) probably had a good read on that album. I remember when it came out, my sister, who is 6 years older than me and was not into this genre whatsoever bought and loved the album. I guarantee you she couldn’t name a song from any of their other albums.
I'd argue that "NaNaNa," "Famous Last Words," "Ghost Of You," and "I Don't Love You" also belong on this list, and they don't play the latter two at every show. However your point still stands that any setlist would involve playing a lot of non-hits and deeper cuts.
