I would say the Lemon Twigs are easily the most out-of-place opener.

 

I saw them open a show in December and they were a lot of fun for a band I had never listened to before. I have to get around to actually listening to them

based on when gerard was more active on insta, a lot of these bands align with the garagey-fuzzed out aesthetic he was working on prior to the initial mcr reunion announcement, so I'm not sure about this

one would imagine that if this was left to booking there'd be some bigger/more popular bands on here.

 

aligning with aesthetic =/= listening to the band lol. that's literally what booking agents are for. some of these bands only have, like, one EP. come on.

but mcr is big enough they could've had a weezer-level opener. I think it's great they're bringing tiny bands.

no way would Weezer support MCR, if anything it'd probably be the other way around or at LEAST a coheadliner.

Weezer sells out arenas, and headlines smaller fests, they’d never “open” for MCR. They’d co-headline, and if it weren’t for this being a reunion tour, Weezer would probably close every night.

Don’t know why this got brought up, but now I’ve got this image of a Weezer/MCR co headliner and I love it lol.

 

Didn't Weezer just open for Green Day and Fall Out Boy? Pent up MCR demand feels current FOB / Green Day level of mainstream recognition. Would be a weird ass fit though.

Weezer is absolutely not bigger than MCR currently. That's crazy.

 

It's two completely kinds of "big" that it's like comparing apples to oranges

Weezer still release music, they have released SEVEN albums since MCR's last album. A huge part of MCR's draw right now is the fact this is a reunion that many thought would never happen

 

is it? their streaming numbers are virtually identical and, if anything, weezer is more of a physical-era band than MCR. they play the same size venues and, again reunion aside, sell relatively the same. merch is similar for both. MCR being similarly big, if not marginally bigger, off way less music makes them appear bigger but they’re essentially the same size

both are smaller than green day and fall out boy. both would have opened hella mega.
