It's cool you like it, my brothers all LOVE it. Halloween 3, Season of the Witch. One of my all time favorites.
Love that song too. I remember it coming as the second single after Na Na Na and it was such a different vibe.
I will never forget the first time I listened to Danger Days the whole way through. Honestly, I had listened to Na Na Na about 500 times at that point and was refreshing daily to see if the album leaked. When it finally did, I burned it to a CD and went on a drive. I still remember exactly where I was driving when I was listening to those songs for the first time. Wow what an album. Still to this day my favorite out of all of theirs. I can believe it's been 6 years this month since I last saw them live. Four times in the month of September on the Honda Civic Tour with Blink. It was the night of September 1st that they fired Mike Pedicone as their touring drummer, and me and my two friends were about to get in a car and drive 8 hours to see them in Salt Lake City. So glad they didn't end up canceling.
I got the album the Sunday after it came out from a friend who bought it for me. Went home, laid on my bed, and listened to it straight through twice in a row. I loved Planetary a lot at the time haha.
Top 5 1. Deathwish 2. I Never Told You 3. Early Sunsets Over Monroeville 4. Demolition Lovers 5. Hang 'Em High Bottom 5 1. We Don't Need Another Song About California 2. Zero Percent 3. Save Yourself, Ill Hold Them Back 4. Sing 5. S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W
Wow how could Save Yourself be in bottom 5's? I can see it not being too 5 but it's such a killer song. The build up at the beginning, the lyrics, the "you MOTHERFUCKER!" I'm still gutted they never really played it live.
I mean I love pretty much every song they ever put out so I still like it a lot but it's easily one of my least favourites. I'm not a huge fan of it lyrically and its one of the only songs Gerard's sung where I don't love every second of his vocals. It's always been between that and Sing for my least favourite on DD and that's always been my least favourite MCR album. I forgot about CW though so I'd swap The World is Ugly in to my bottom 5 instead of S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W.
I know a lot of people didn't like how they changed The World Is Ugly, but I always thought it was a lot better than Light Behind Your Eyes
I like the live versions more because I loved the live versions. I'm not a fan of the studio version at all, it just sucks, I think The Light Behind Your Eyes is way better than that.
I love all of Conventional Weapons but I'd say Surrender the Night isn't anything special, and I go back and forth on Tomorrow's Money. I think both Tomorrow's Money and Make Room are a little messy, kinda like some different parts that got strung together. The rest of CW is phenomenal - Boy Division, Ambulance, Gun, Light Behind, Kiss the Ring, and Burn Bright are songs I absolutely love. World is Ugly is good not great.
So before CW came out, I never watched any live videos or anything because I was too sad about never seeing them live, so I heard the studio version first. I really like the live version, but I still love the real one too.
1. Boy Division 2. Burn Bright 3. Tomorrow's Money 4. Surrender the Night 5. The Light Behind Your Eyes 6. Make Room!!! 7. Kiss the Ring 8. Gun. 9. Ambulance 10. The World is Ugly CW, ranked.
I only listened to them after it was announced for CW and I fell in love with all the different versions out there, it's probably my favourite thing they did post Black Parade, so when I eventually heard the studio version I was so disappointed in it. It's still a fairly decent song and Gerard sounds great but it's just nowhere close to what I wanted.
So I'd break it down like this: Boy Division is awesome. That breakdown rules. Tomorrow's Money is even cooler but less MCR-y so I can see why it's off-putting, but I liked the messy direction. Ambulance is sweet too, I always forget how good it is, but it's also kinda different which is good. On the bottom half of my favorites from CW tho. Gun. isn't my favorite, but it's got this lyric that always resonates with me, "They're teaching me to kill, who's teaching me to love?" Kinda the same thing that Loving Someone by the 1975 is about which feels very significant to me so I'll appreciate the song for that. The #3 songs are both solid, not my favorites. Kiss the Ring is sick, and Make Room is even sicker. These songs are better than their counterparts on DD very easily. #5 songs are both awesome, and Surrender the Night is absolutely underrated, fantastic track and feels like a great closer for this but i'm not sure.
They just cut all of my favourite parts, added in some lame verses and sucked all of the emotion out of the chorus. I don't think I'd be so against it if it weren't a butchered version of one of my favourite songs but I still think it would be one of my least favourite MCR songs.
Look on the bright side, at least they recorded something and released it. It's one more MCR song for you to have.
