Gerard really loves his olive green shirt! DD is also my favorite album. I was so underwhelmed by the stripped down stage show. With this truly being their biggest tour to date, I really hope they don’t skimp on video, pyro, SFX, etc.
I love that Frank keeps it real with his guitar collection and actually uses affordable gear rather than using vintage and super expensive ass gear all the time. the dude still raves about epiphone and now loves his squier Antigua. Epiphone should re-release his signature model now that MCR is back. Or fender should give him a sig squier jazzmaster. That’d be cool.
I pale in comparison to many MCR fans, but Frank seems like a very down to earth dude. The entire band does. I'm realizing that with each interview I see post reunion.
All four of them are remarkably down to earth and I think that quality played a role in their success. They achieved commercial success fairly early and never took that as carte blanche to act like egotistical rock stars the way many of their less successful peers did. Gerard did an interview recently where he discussed the toll becoming famous took on him and he showed a level of self awareness that I find rare in any public figure, but especially musicians.
I know Gerard talked about receiving the advice from Billie Joe from Green Day during the AI tour to not be afraid to be a rock star, at least on stage. Love that Gerard took that advice to appropriately evolve his onstage persona while not turning into an asshat offstage.
Now that you mention it I think Billie Joe is the same way. He seems like such a nice and humble dude in real life, which is like the total opposite of his stage persona lol
One of the first interviews I remember listening to with them was the two parter Kevin Smith did with them on Smodcast breaking down Welcome to the Black Parade line by line. And they were just these soft spoken, down to earth sounding dudes. Totally surprised me for some reason. Another one like that is Corey Taylor - guy seems so chill and down to earth in interviews and then is insane on stage haha.
So if this fall tour *does* happen, what shows are you going to? I have tickets for Philly, Detroit, Denver, Las Vegas, and the final LA show.
I've got tickets to Sunrise, Houston, Dallas and I think two or maybe three of the LA shows along with the three shows at Milton Keynes and the Eden Project show in England which I'm assuming will be postponed til 2022.
I want to go to the 9/11 New York show so bad but tickets are preposterously expensive. Still, I feel like that is going to be such a special show, on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and essentially them becoming a band. They *have* to play Skylines & Turnstiles right?
I'd wager they play it right before the encore. Would love to go to this show, but like you said, it's way too expensive. Happy I'm at least seeing them in Jersey. Shadow of the City is also on 9/11 so I'll likely go to that instead, if things pan out this summer/fall. Both shows would be emotional and cathartic. 20 years to the day of one tragedy and also during an attempt to return to normalcy from another nightmare.
Going to one of the MK shows here in the U.K. and I was going to be going to Riot Fest but who knows now.
They're not even playing a show in the DC/MD/VA area for some fucking reason and the Philly ticket-buying experience was an abomination so I have tickets for nothing right now
I bought my ticket for Philly from the Wells Fargo site the day the postponement was announced last year and was able to snag a pit ticket. But only going to Philly because it’s now the first show (and also potentially wanting to get rid of my Detroit tickets since it’s no longer the first show).
New interview with Gerard & Aiden Gallagher talking about recording in his home studio. Also mentions that Rob Cavallo has been there (recently I assume). Along with Frank’s recent mention that Rob Cavallo “produced My Chem’s last three, er- last two records, rather”, I think treachery is afoot. Everything they do is intentional. Gerard’s recent interviews have been in that recording studio vs. his office where previous ones were at.
I've barely listened to this band for most of the last decade (or at least since the breakup), but for some reason the last few weeks I've found myself going to the first three records over and over again. Three Cheers just absolutely rips, pretty wild how well it's held up over the years. Anyway I hope I get to catch one of their reunion shows somewhere way down the road when that's a thing again.
