I think SpyKi hit it on the head pretty good. I think there's a small possibility they'll do something together again, but I think compared to other bands that broke up/went on hiatus, it just seems less likely. Not just because they specifically said they would not reunite, that the band was done...but also I think a lot of their favorite bands, like the Smiths, also are very stubborn about reuniting and they'll follow a similar path. Also, not that I see their music as immature by any means, but I feel the guys in the band have matured enough themselves that if they went back to playing some songs about vampires and ghosts, it might not have the same effect. I hope they do some sort of reunion just for the sake that they never got a proper send off. The breakup announcement came almost a year after their final show, which was pretty heartbreaking.
I will say that Danger Days especially deserves to be listened to in full, especially at loud volume while driving fast on the highway. It's really the best way for optimal enjoyment.
Idk man, I didn't think AOF, Thursday, or Underoath would become nostalgic festival/occasional touring acts either, but they have. It's pretty lucrative, and just like all the other bands I listed, all the MCR members have solo projects that they'd probably still want to focus on, so they could do some festivals or other shows once in a while and make GOOD money (way more than the other bands I listed) to make it easier to keep going with their solo projects that wouldn't bring in nearly as much. I don't think this is a bad thing by the way... if band members get along fine and want to just play their hits and give their fans what they want, I think that's cool. Maybe MCR is different, but all I'm saying is I wouldn't be shocked at all if this happens.
Yeah, I just can't see that happening based on why the band split up. I can't see Gerard ever wanting the band to be that and I can't see him ever really needing the money either. I don't think there's anything wrong with just playing a few shows every now and then either, I'd be ecstatic to have the chance to just see them again every now and then. I'm just trying to give some insight as to why I don't expect it. I feel like the ending to MCR was different to most bands. They never fell out or even had creative differences. They were never struggling to make things work as a band or bored of playing shows and making music. With all that said, there's very little in this world I want more than to be wrong and for them to get back together. I feel like if there was a chance of it happening in the next few years though, they would have done it for the 10 year anniversary of TBP and they were still clearly not even thinking about it then.
"THIS COULD BE THE LAST OF AHHHLLLLLL THE ROYYYYIIIIDESSSSSS WE TAAAAAAKE" will emotionally destroy you if you do this, can confirm.
Was inspired by this thread to take a drive in the Sunday evening rain and listen to Danger Days. Absolute magic!!
You better have cried when Kids From Yesterday got going. Definitely the best daytime driving album of theirs, haha
I definitely get what you're saying... yeah if they decide to keep the band dead that's extremely respectable too, and very in keeping with their mentality. I agree that if they were gonna reunite last year's 10-year TBP anniversary would've been the most obvious opportunity.
I never saw them live, and I am still strangely ok with keeping it that way. They're kinda larger than life for me.
(maybe) hot take. MCR will never get back together for at least 10 years when they can be fully considered a nostalgia act and no longer need to try and push away the "emo hot topic vampires" association that they never broke free of
yeah, i always thought it they re-united it would be to celebrate 10 years of TBP. I honestly don't think we'll ever see this band again, which is just fine to me honestly. I still listen to them regularly and would continue to do so whether or not there was a new album/single/tour or whatever.
Yeah I don't see them getting back together, especially as a nostalgia act. Its so nice to see them all together though.
Yeah I wasn't trying to add to reunion speculation, just cute to see them all together supporting Frank
