The "scalper" thing gets thrown around a lot as a major problem, but it has less of an impact than people think, at least in the traditional sense of there being ticket brokers gobbling up all the tickets. There's no way of truly determining the exact number, but ticket brokers are not accounting for the majority of the resale market. Fans of the band, or individuals who realize there's a market to be capitalized on, are the reason why this happens. Since it's become largely accepted and in some cases, encouraged by the primary box office to resell tickets, it's easier than ever for Joe Blow to pick up an extra pair of tickets with his/her own and flip them on TM Resale or StubHub, pocketing some extra cash and/or making their own seats free. This happens in significant numbers. There are some large brokers around the country who still buy tickets, but the numbers they're able to pull in are significantly less than ever before. Ticketmaster's bot prevention is surprisingly effective, and these new waiting rooms/queues/phone number verification steps discourage brokers from running large scale operations. In effect, Ticketmaster decentralized the resale marketplace. What used to be a haven for actual ticket broker businesses has now just become a free for all with average people looking to make a quick buck.
I really think Ticketmaster's weird new demand system had a big part in these prices. Someone said that they saw Brooklyn nosebleeds at $80. Well when I finally got through the queue they were $180. When I got my Newark tickets for the second night the lower bowl seats were $129, but then someone said they were like $200. The prices were set lower and Ticketmaster jacked them the fuck up as soon as demand was there. But the original prices weren't THAT terrible.
Yes, there was definitely some negative reaction to the $150 price, however it made sense due to the exclusivity and uniqueness of that show. This seems like an entirely different ballgame.

IDK. It's an arena show. I opted out of the Shrine show because if I got stuck in the back it would have been a shitty view.
Ok, the whole economics / supply x demand blah blah blah can explain the face value of these tickets (which I will still say is outrageous...I go to plenty of high-demand big concerts and have not paid prices like this before). But the resale prices? Which are immediately 2-3x higher than the already outrageous face value? Nope. That argument doesn't work. Those tickets will sit on those resale sites for a while. Pit for $1000? Pit for $6000?!?! Nope. That is not the market price.
I got two of the last $73 rafters tickets. Seats aren’t ideal but I’m just happy to get tickets without having to take out a second mortgage on my soul
In regards to Ticketmaster’a dynamic pricing, whoever is producing this tour (AEG, Live Nation, etc) sets a pricing range for each tier of tickets prior to tickets going on sale. For example they might set the pit tickets at $199 when they go on sale, but prior to that the production company, in accordance with the artist, sets a range...so let’s say they set the range for out tickets at $135-275. Even though there listed at $199 for the on sale they could fluctuate up or down within that given range depending on the demand. Ticketmaster profits more only if the demand is high bc the service fees then increase as well. The additional money that is made off of this goes back to the production company, and ultimately the artist. Also, if you don’t think the artists have a say in their ticket costs you’re crazy. MCR pulled out of Coachella over not getting top billing, this reunion isn’t about exposure, it’s about money. But good for MCR, get that money before people get any older and have zero interest in seeing you.

For the record, I definitely think the prices are reasonable. I didn’t buy our Billie Eilish tickets, but I think they were roughly the same pricing tier and I think MCR has proven they can match her demand
