I know the 9/11 is true and I remembered hearing about the “mission from God” and after digging through twitter I found Gerard commenting on it.
Watching Life on the Murder Scene for the first time since...well, probably since before they broke up. What a trip, it's giving me all the feels. I love this band so much. I just want to know what's coming next. (Also, LOTMS is back on Youtube. There's some parts that are muted to avoid copyright. But it wasn't available last month when I tried to find it).
Question: is there a large availability of AUD or SBD recordings of MCR lying around that are not centralized? Now that my work on the Brand New Archive has, uh, pretty much ceased, I'm debating taking on a new project.
Are there any other archives like this? I would love to find some. I found an incredible one for Radiohead live shows but haven't been able to find many others
There are a few, actually. I know they're persona non grata, but the Brand New Archive is mine. A few more below: Nine Inch Nails Live Archive (this one is super impressive) Pinegrove Archive (made by @local_corn) Red Hot Chili Peppers Live Archive Depeche Mode Live Wiki Live Nirvana
Random thought I've had lately but does everyone think MCR's hype and demand will stay consistent or is everyone just in a honeymoon phase of having nostalgia goggles? When they announced their reunion a ton of people I've known since middle and high school were raving about how excited they were for the reunion on social media and that they they cannot wait to relive their emo days. MCR blew up in 2004 when I was middle school so I remember that majority of those people that that were calling MCR a lame emo band are now saying they've always been huge fans. I thought maybe it was just the people I know but friends from different areas have said the same thing about people they know. A lot of my friends that have been huge fans since Three Cheers came out have said it's infuriating that the same people who said their were "gay emo ***s" or whatever for liking MCR are now acting like huge fans. I'm not that big of a fan so it isn't frustrating to me but it is very confusing. MCR has always been a huge band but a band who was playing theaters on one of their last US tours now seems like one of the biggest and most talked about bands in the world at the moment. It sort of reminds me how many people who thought playing Pokemon was childish all of a sudden were the biggest Pokemon fans when Pokemon Go came out. Anyone else have thoughts or similar stories to this?
In all honesty it depends on three things 1) How frequently they tour 2) Who they tour with 3) New music Bands that don’t have a good comeback suffer at one of those.
I’ve encountered some of that. P4K/trend oriented friends who are suddenly flying the mascara flag; “wow I forgot what an amazing vocalist Gerard is” etc It’s annoying in a way, but if people are becoming fans, that’s what matters. Kind of a three cheers for sweet revenge situation. As for their legacy, I think the MCR is the real deal and angsty martian teens in 2044 will still find their way to this wonderful world. The sincerity that caused 2004 jerks to mock MCR is the force cementing their place as a legacy band. I work a lot in the legacy/heritage rock world and it seems like the artists whose careers and work endures are the ones who are honest and thoughtful and who execute their visions well. I think MCR does all those things real good.
I'm really conflicted on this one. I think the answer honestly depends on how well received their new music is. Also, the Return show was fantastic. They sounded good. But if they're really going to be playing arenas and doing big headline festival slots, they're going to have to have a bigger show to go along with it.
I think MCR can definitely maintain relevance and a huge fan base if they write new music. They're amazingly talented song writers. I can see them having the same kind of career Fall Out Boy has. But man there were so many people I went to high school with posting on FB after the announcement like "ugh EMO ME IS SCREAMING." Cringe.
I think the MCR story also captures the zeitgeist of 00’s emo culture so romantically, from the origin story to the rise, the controversies in the UK, the sudden breakup. It’s just a really great story. Someday Timothee Chalamet Jr is gonna make a really good Gerard.
Yeah it's just how the culture shifted while they were gone. Things that maybe you'd get made fun of for liking before suddenly came into vogue. Similar to how PATD were playing small theaters in 2011 and are now headlining arenas.
Thought some might find it interesting that Gerard has a teleprompter on stage. I know a lot of touring musicians use them. I know Gerard has always had some problems with remembering lyrics so a smart move on his part.
Idk why but I'd rather them fuck up the lyrics than use a teleprompter. Guess it doesn't matter too much though. Matt Skiba, Tom Delonge, and Billie Joe have all jumped on the 'prompter train in the last couple years.
I have such a lack of trust in myself that I'd probably use a prompter too, even if I was confident I knew the lyrics. Same reason I use a GPS in my own hometown sometimes if I'm looking for a specific road I don't go down too often lol
I think the hype will die down once everyone has gotten a chance to see them live. The hype for Fall Out Boy is nowhere near the hype for them back when they reunited. It will be interesting to see how well the tour does. Can they fill up arenas? I guess time will tell.
I feel like the hype for MCR would be way higher had they announced a new record. I’m hoping they announce one when they announce the tour, and drop a single with a short(ish) album rollout. I don’t know how long the hype sustains without new music in today’s world. Again, I think FOB nailed it with their reunion rollout. I’ll be really surprised if the tour is just a tour and no new music comes with it.
