I've done a lot of stuff in my life that was a huge waste of my time and effort, but I've never left a negative song by song review of a beloved album in a thread full of the band's fans, so I think I'm doing pretty well for myself.
idk what happened to my ears but last night TBP just got elevated to an all new level of greatness for me. The run from The End through Welcome To The Black Parade is just untouchable. I’d agree that 3 Cheers has the better back half, but that front half of TBP is the best thing this band has done for me by far and better than what most of their contemporaries were doing by a mile and a half.
According to Andy Greenwald on the episode of The Watch podcast on Halloween, he texted Gerard after the reunion news broke and there are currently no plans to record new music but they also haven't ruled it out, they're just going to see what happens. They talk about MCR for a while at the beginning of the episode, but this particular tidbit begins around 7:20: Intellectual Property Won’t Save You Now: ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ Hit Bumps in the Road
The thing about that podcast is how Andy says "they just wanted to do a show." With this rollout it's like... come on, haha. Made me take the whole thing with a grain of salt.
I'm not saying there is definitely new music, but IF THERE WAS, they certainly would say that there wasn't.
i wouldnt be surprised if there was no immediate plan for new music, but an understanding that, there could be down the line
i went to Joshua Tree this weekend and i probably should have listened to Danger Days, but i listened to a lot of Conventional Weapons instead. I agree some of the live versions have more fire inside than the record. I don't love the production. Brendan O'Brien is so so great, but this project sounds very much like a generic major label rock recording. It doesn't have a singular sound like their other records. Danger Days is my favorite in this regard. The sound is fucked, relentlessly compressed and maximalist in every way. Very holi. Today, I'm going to try listening to a version of Conventional Weapons with the 4 songs that survived to Danger Days added back. Has anyone tried that?
I'm pretty surprised to see so many people not into Danger Days. Sure it's not TBP or Three Cheers, but I mean, what is? Danger Days still has a ton of bangers on it and very few songs that I'd skip.
@SpyKi probably knows better, but my understanding is: Bulletproof Heart Party Poison The Only Hope For Me Is You Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back The last one, I'm not certain of, but Conventional Weapons was at one point titled Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back, so I'm guessing it may be from those sessions.
Gerard has said 4 songs survived to DD and also has said Na Na Sing Planetary Scarecrow Summertime Kids From Yesterday Vampire Money are all from the 2nd attempt. And his comments about Destroya also lead me to believe that song is from round 2, so... Here's a 2010 article of G talking about every song: My Chemical Romance's 'Danger Days' Track-By-Track
in a contemporaneous interview i watched the other day it was implied that for danger days "bulletproof heart" and "the only hope" were heavily rearranged from whatever they were in the conventional weapons sessions
i was a big fan of three cheers. but, for some reason the singles of the black parade turned me off, between being overplayed, and me being upset about gerard cutting his hair and dying it blonde (stupid, i know), i never bought the black parade or even listened to the whole album. i just finally listened to it in full and wtf, i missed out. "this is how i disappear" is such a good song. gerard sounds really good on that album, definitely his peak. still hate teenagers though.
