Their first three are still as perfect as music gets for me. Nothing else honestly comes close. Danger Days is still incredible but it never quite hit those heights, same for Conventional Weapons.
I think I might prefer DD to Three Cheers it’s VERY close though. Na Na Na, Save Yourself, Summertime, Destroya, Kids From Yesterday, and Vampire Money are MCR all-timers for me
DD is pure joy. Summertime is kind of a shameless 1979 rewrite and Kids From Yesterday is a Heroes rewrite but ehhh whatev
Honestly Three Cheers, TBP, and Danger Days all rotate as my favorite, usually based on the one I listened to last.
i disagree that "summertime" at all sounds like "1979" except for the opening riff being kinda similar
The Black Parade is without a doubt my favourite, and I don't think that anything can change that. It came out when I was a lost and alone 15-year-old and was exactly what I needed at the time. The impact it had was amazing and for that it will always be my favourite.
The Black Parade is probably my favorite album of all time, and MCR isn't even my favorite band. That tells you something about it as a record.
spun their discography today after only really listening to bits and pieces of DD over the last few months. i will forever love Bullets and the rawness to it forgot how loud / fast all of Cheers is. aside from "Interlude" that album just goes and goes. DD has "Summertime" which is at least a top 3 song from them for me
It sounds like a band trying to find their footing and who they are going to be. And, I'm happy to report that they did.
it's weird what memories stick with you. i definitively remember where i was and who i was with the first time i heard Bullets. and then was lucky enough to see them open for TBS and FATA when no one gave a shit so we wer eup front screaming away and Gerard looked so happy and slightly scared by our knowledge of them / the lyrics lol. and then i got to talk with Gerard and Mikey after the show and they said they liked my super emo sweatershirt, so that was awesome. and then like a year or so later i remember turning on Fuse and seeing the video for "I'm Not Okay" and going 'holy shit these guys just got huge' and it's weird knowing how right i became lol
Listening through today I just love the progression of their albums. I can't wait to see what they (hopefully) do next.
I'm not huge into Bullets, but absolutely love their three albums following it and rotate through all of them semi-regularly. I would love if Three Cheers got a remaster one day, it could really use one.
I hope somebody can correct me if I’m wrong, but Mikey wrote the riff and has described it as a 1979 kind of thing
That's so cool you got to know them in the Bullets era. I envy anyone from back then as that album takes me back even though I only heard it a few years ago. I "grew up", if you will, with Three Cheers era.
fair but if so, i think they changed it up p significantly, it sounds like a new romantic synth pop song that billy corgan would prob kill to write
I recall them mentioning The Cure when talking about Summertime which I can hear. Still feels like it's own thing though, they've always been great at taking heavy influence from other artists but still making distinctly My Chem songs imo.
you can hear actual parts of songs from three cheers throughout bullets. its the rough blueprint of three cheers.
