Monroeville was their first song I ever heard so it has a special place in my heart. It must've been shortly before 3 cheers came out. I used to listen to this random online radio station and they'd play songs from Bullets. And then when 3 cheers came out I didn't immediately connect that it was the same band lol
Musically it's easily the one moment I'd relive if I could. Loved them immediately when I saw them but obviously never could've imagined how big they'd get.
I saw them a few times during the Bullets era and then during the first week that Three Cheers was released. Each show was probably less than 100 people. Haven't seen them since and I'm ok with that.
First time I got to see them was the first shows they played for the Danger Days era before the albums came out. Played a huge set with most of TBP and Revenge and then a few from DD and Bullets. Easily my favourite shows ever.
I'd like to see them play, but I have a feeling that if there are shows they won't come to North Carolina, and tickets will sell out in like a minute.
My first time seeing them was 2005. fave time seeing them was when they promoted the black parade is dead. My least favorite time was oddly the black parade tour. I think I'd watched too many videos of it on youtube so I'd seen all of his rehearsed stage banter and jokes. I think it was a hard lesson for younger me that not every show is special and unique lol and some artists do the exact same thing at every stop. I probably wouldn't care now but it bummed me out at the time. I regret not seeing them during the danger days era. My first year being a broke college student.
"Demolition Lovers" is such a perfect closer. The ending to that song is magnificent. Going to listen to The Black Parade again.
When they played taste of chaos with the used me and my bff plotted ways to skip school and see them but failed. Apparently it's hard to sneak to a show 4 hours away when you have no car. My now stepmom went tho and looking back I prob could've just asked to go with her. I was dumb.
Drowning Lessons reminds me of being 13 and angsty. What a great track, my favourite on the record for sure.
In December 2004, I saw Taking Back Sunday / The Used / My Chemical Romance. 5,000 capacity venue. 8th grade me was in heaven.
Honestly I miss this band so much more now. I'd made peace with them being gone and now all I want is more My Chemical Romance music.
I just found out a few years ago from someone on ap.net that there was video of that show. Was so glad to find these.
I guess I just think it works better in The Black Parade. But, my favorite vocals from him are Hesitant Alien where he goes less theatrical. My biggest issue with Three Cheers is probably the production style though. They went for a very dry sound, like no reverb or anything going on, and I've never been a fan of that kind of production. Same reason I don't really like Forgive Durden's first album.
HA is easily my least favourite vocals from him, haha. Songs like Zero Zero and Get the Gang Back Together are the first time his vocals have ever been grating to me at points.
That's kind of how I feel about Three Cheers, and the harsh production style doesn't really help it. Though, as a whole I'm not the biggest fan of Gerard's vocals anyway. Maybe I'll try to finish the album later today though and see if I can find something to like. Also, I love Mama so at least we both have that going for us. Haha
Listening to the black parade now, it could use a remaster, feels significantly less dynamic than I remember it being.
