Anyone else hesitant to experience this album for the first time by hearing it played live? I might wait to watch it until after the album drops, but I really want to support the livestream tonight regardless.
I think MxPx is the kind of band that this won’t bother me. Their streams have always sounded good to me. Most likely, what they play live is going to sound very close to the album experience. As in, drums, bass, two guitars, and singing. I don’t expect much beyond those to miss out on for a first listen.
Eh what? IG post replies say they’re playing the album through live. Or are you saying you *know* they’re doing a full album play through?
The press release for it: The band will play a specially curated set live from their newly renovated performance space in Bremerton, Washington, where the band will play songs from the record for the first time ever, take fan requests and shout-outs, share anecdotes on the record and songs, and other fun audience engagement (virtual mosh pit, anyone?). MxPx is guaranteed to provide mind-blowing entertainment for the whole family.
Cool, sounds like they could do both. They replied on IG saying they’d play the entire album through, so that could be fun if they do.
Exact quote: "we are performing the album! The four of us. Playing the songs and talking to fans as we do it between songs." On the SPIN announcement for the livestream.
An incredible livestream... The new songs sound awesome! Can't wait to hear the album front to back this next weeks!
I was hoping they’d play more songs in the after party and did the free trial for premium. Looks like it’s just talking.
Agreed! The boys always sound great and the new album sounds like a good mix of slow and fast songs. Mike is always adept at writing melodies and positive lyrics. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's stream with all the special guests.
solid new album, rad they played the whole thing! seemed like more tracks than self-titled but it flew by, excited to hear it on spotify later
Doing another livestream tomorrow at 6 PST with people from Anberlin and Simple Plan, and a few others I’m forgetting he said…
Maybe it's just coming at the right time in my life, but this is my favorite album from them since The Ever Passing Moment.
This one checks just about every box for me; An onslaught of rapid-fire tunes, guitar riffs and sing-song melodies. Quintessential MxPx (and pop punk) imo, at least for me. If I were to nitpick at all, I would have loved a slower-tempo song just so I can come up for air. The outro to Mistakes Will Be Made is a perfect example of what I’m craving. But again, a very minor omission from my wishlist, and obviously I need to spin this many more times for a definitive opinion.
