Oh yeah good ol Earthsuit. I went to a private Christian high school and one of the girls in my class' mom knew them somehow and got them to come do a private show for us lol. It was wild
the only things i know about Earthsuit are that some former members have also done stuff with Mutemath in the past and that they somehow have a connection to my childhood church (Darren attended around the same time i did and i didn't know until a few years ago)
I haven't listened to Earthsuit for a looong time, it is certainly a trip. Roy and Darren (briefly) were in the band too edit: My page didn't update, didn't see that was already stated lol
I’ll echo that you absolutely should. A lot of it is very indicative of its time, but by the same token it was also way ahead of its time particularly for CCM. I used to listen to “One Time”, “Against the Grain”, “Do You Enjoy the Distortion?”, “Osmosis Land”, and “Schizophreniac” on repeat. I always connected with this line from “Schizophreniac”: “Youth camp junkies don’t get enough to make the buzz last / where y’all at, where y’all at?” At the time I thought I loved it because of the guilt I felt for going to Christian youth camp and getting that high and then not following through as the buzz faded. Now I think I have a clearer understanding that it resonated with me for entirely different reasons I wasn’t yet ready to face. It’s a bizarre album, but it’s got a legit legacy in the CCM world because of how revolutionary it was. I recall a time where, if you knew who Earthsuit was in certain Christian circles, you were cool lol.
I've listened to Earthsuit but only remember the song above. Sounds a lot more like P.O.D and Skindred's softer stuff than I remember lol
I think I can remember people in youth group listen to White Horse (I think that was the name) but it was too wild for my middle school mind to appreciate. I feel like I’d enjoy them now
Listening to the first two albums today and I still don't understand how they weren't one of the biggest bands in the world. "Spotlight" is such a lay-up radio hit and it didn't even chart.
Bumping this thread made me revisit Play Dead this morning… this record is filthyyyyyyyy. So fucking good
Wish they were able to complete a trilogy between Play Dead, Vitals, and something else. Great turntable records imo
Of all the bands that have broken up I feel like Mutemath is one of the absolutely least likely to reunite, given how bad things seem to have been and continue to be between Paul and Darren…. ….but if Oasis can do it….
Just need something of theirs to randomly pop off on TikTok so that they have the $$ incentive to reconcile
I may be wrong but to believe they've spoken positively about each in the last few years. They just can't seem to stand each other when they're writing music.
seeing this thread got me to go back and listen to their music for the first time in years and it is glorious
Pinging this to say Odd Soul really holds up. It’s one of the ones that’s held up really well. Loved going to the Intro tour and the subsequent major tour for this run.
