Say the word sticks out as an early favorite. I just want to get Paul and Darren in the same room now. Feels like time healed whatever wounds, and they can make music again. Edit. not sure if you guys saw the video for it or not but it has several Mutemath moments (where they shot the Typical video, the van from Spotlight, the house where they made Armistice, The backdrop for the Armistice album) Holy Hell do I miss that band.
"Fear On Your Side" hit me hard. The way he sings the first verse in particular when he switches perspectives at the end to first person made me so sad for him: Brace yourself for what'll go wrong Another stage goes dark, no song When it's all you ever wanted You wanted, gone It's all I ever wanted I wanted, gone I'm glad he released this and seems to be in a better place now.
If I remember correctly, Darren wanted to be home so he quit right before they were supposed to do a tour for Play Dead and Paul was pissed. I'm sure there was probably more to it, but that's how it sounded to fans.
i think Paul indicated their working relationship had been strained for a few years at that point too. plus with Roy also leaving before Play Dead dropped, Paul was the only original member remaining, so after the tour, he kinda took ownership of the whole thing and turned it into a solo project before winding it down for the time being
It was a confusing time. I remember Roy saying he wasn't totally leaving the band but would continue writing and recording with them, but they/Paul stopped anyway. It was so odd how fast they went from their core line-up to Paul and hired guns on their final tour
i felt a little bad for Todd, because he had just joined the band during the Odd Soul cycle and seemed to be having a great time, but then Paul said "going forward it's only gonna be me". i get it, since he and Darren created the project to begin with, but in a way it kinda felt like he was fired from the band.
If anyone is sleeping on this Paul Meany album, I highly recommend waking up to it. Absolutely love this thing. I’ve really enjoyed his work with TOP, but it’s so nice to hear his voice again.
