Just peeped Paul's story, looks like he's finally announcing his fully completed solo album in a few hours (the announcement was already made on the Mutemath facebook group if anyone is curious, he announced it there first)
Alright, I gotta admit, this album/release is pretty damn confusing. The album includes both 2024 singles, which makes sense. It also includes "Prodigal" from the Distance EP, which I had filed as Mutemath, since two other tracks on that EP are Mutemath tracks from 2016 and 2018. But yes, Mutemath and Paul were pretty synonymous at that point, and I know it doesn't matter. BUT I do find it weird that "Sooner Than Later" from the Voice in the Silence EP is on this upcoming album unchanged. Anyway, just feels pretty piecemeal instead of like... a fully new body of work
Pretty sure when he released that EP he said “here’s the first taste of my solo stuff” for prodigal. It was tagged as Paul in AM.
ah, i don't use Spotify so i didn't even know. i'm fine with Prodigal being there, but Sooner or Later feels really odd. maybe that explains why VITS has been rebranded to a Paul solo release on streaming.
Looks like you're right, but I have it in my library as MM because two of the songs originally were and I guess it felt right to me, but again it's all basically the same once he was the only member of the band. "I am releasing an acoustic EP for the holiday season this year. It will have some unreleased songs from the vault, some stripped back alternate versions of MM songs and perhaps some more recent experiments as I'm testing some ideas ideas out for my new album. Mainly, it's just a small thank you for the amazing response to the Reset EP anniversary release and for everyone still being here all these years later." "DISCLAIMER: I don't want anyone to be misled. This is not a band project, and it does not include any of the work of past band members; just songs that I wrote and recorded on my own either while in the band or after the band split up. While I'm still finishing up my new solo album, these are just some recordings I wanted to share in the meantime that are still meaningful to me but just seem to make more sense in a context like this. I hope you'll enjoy"
Nice! Streaming on bandcamp with vinyl coming out later! edit: I listened to it yesterday and felt it was a 5/10 for me. Some cool moments but nothing that would go back to unfortunately. Maybe it’s a grower..
wonder why this is under his own name if he’s the only member of mutemath, maybe the band will return someday idk
looks like Ambulance was a co-write with Darren. not sure if the song is an old Mutemath idea or not, but i wonder if they're on good terms now
Based on everything I’ve seen up to this point, I highly doubt it. Probably just an older song DK helped write a long time ago.
I feel the same. This feels more like a collection of songs than an album. A few songs clicked but overall I'm underwhelmed.
