I read that statement as someone that's in panic mode. Just reread it with the voice of someone trying to keep their cool - but not fooling anyone. I'm sure I'll still enjoy this album - but I expect it to be their last as well.
Christ, terrible news. DK is one of a kind and fleshed out the sound of the band that other drummers couldn't even attempt to. The letter doesn't read great at all, and am genuinely curious if there's some legit drama within the band.
For fuck's sake. Darren's drumming is what sold me on Mutemath way back when. Kinda hoping this album is their last now, it just won't be the same. :(
Curious since we're on the topic, I've always heard Darren King raved about as this otherworldly innovative drummer, but I don't have the ear for that stuff - what's so special/hard to replace about his playing style?
Just to return to positivity for a bit, I am still really really excited to hear this full album. Hit Parade is a phenomenal track and such a promising lead single, and Stroll On is excellent as well. I think it's interesting that 6 out of 10 tracks are over 5 minutes, with one going as long as 6 & a half minutes. I have a feeling that if this does end up being their final album, it'll be a more than worthy swan song. And at least it was recorded with Roy and Darren still in the band before everything fell apart.
Ha, while we're at it....here are mine: Such abrupt, awful news. Still stoked to hear the rest of this album though
Yeah, he really doesn't address the reasons for his departure at all, but I'm hoping it was at least somewhat amicable.
This situation doesn't seem amicable at all. Contrast this with Roy leaving. Very different. And very sad.
New single "War" coming this Friday...and from the looks of the end of the video maybe a music video?
Yeah, huge bummer that this might be the end of the band, because this album is shaping up to be possibly their best for me at least.
