I'm not gonna muddy things up with why I think that wouldn't work for this prompt, but I'll save it til after this round ends haha

 

I honestly was hoping for more descriptions to help me understand why some of these songs were submitted

 

Absolutely agree.

 

I did my best for mine. It's still rooted in the band's core sound, but pulls from other genres to create something new for them and the scene.

 

I got orange-boxed on my first 2 choices, Rx Bandits and Forgive Durden.

lol I already broke that rule last round, don't want to be a repeat offender.

 

To be clear, for this next round it has to be the original demo version, not an updated version they recorded later, right?

EDIT: Got my answer in the league chat. Going to take some hunting for this one.

 

That Fletcher pull is easily my favorite choice of music league so far. It's taking everything to not just give that pick all my points. One of my favorite albums and that song is a top tier song of my entire life.

 

I don’t really expect to do well this round, but I will still be bummed when my pick winds up getting stomped on by any of the numerous debut LPs (or even later in some cases) that were released on very notable independent punk labels

 

I only see a few that I would consider not fitting the bill here, being on a label doesn't negate a pick if that song or album was before the artist broke out

 

Yeah I suppose that was just my reading of the prompt. I am also a bad judge of determining when artists around that time were “breaking out”. Any band that was signed or touring felt huge to me when I was a teenager

 

fair point! that being said, I do think there's definitely some better submissions than others, but I'll see where my points lie tomorrow!!

my shortlist was full of Kenny Vasoli and Anthony Green features, those two were everywhere
