Tony Thaxton from Motion City Soundtrack does this podcast called Bizarre Albums where he finds and talks about these crazy albums that exist from famous celebrities, actors, musicians, politians, etc and it's really great. Sometimes you get gems like this:
What the fuck is slowcore? I know it’s a genre. I’ve seen it mentioned so many times and am tired of not knowing what it is. What are it’s defining traits? What are some of the genre’s essential bands/albums/songs?
Torquil Campbell of Stars is opening up commissions for personally written songs for $1000, buyers gets the only copy and rights are theirs forever. Torquil Campbell of Stars Wants to Write a Custom Song for You | Exclaim! No shade to Max Bemis, but it seems like Torq's the kind of guy who would follow through on it?
we talked about it in this thread: https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/chorus-fm-members-eoty-lists-2021.60227 but for me it was Bleachers, Kacey, billie, St Vincent, Jade Bird and Wet
I didn't really care for her first album much, so the new one wasn't a big dissapointment. Either way, I didn't care for it
Idk if this is a disappointment because I wasn't like highly anticipating it but the Turnstile album. I listened to it once and wasn't really into it. One of those albums where everyone loves it and you're just like "What am I missing here?". I need to listen again, maybe I'll have a different opinion a second time.
last TWIABP album is the only one that really does anything for me. I dont do their scene but I was surprised that the latest one sorta switched genres.
Snail Mail was most disappointing for me. It’s really solid but I liked Lush a lot better. I’d say Bleachers but at the end of the day just like the last one and kind of even strange desire it’s an album that’s mostly good all the way through but doesn’t quite live up to its highlights as a whole. I had higher hopes but it’s probably in line with what my expectations should have been.
Not disappointing, the opposite actually - a great early 2022 release is the new record by The Wombats. Had never listened to them before, so I will have to correct that and check out their discography. Sad to not see a thread about the new album. “Worry” is a great song that would be on an end of year best songs list if I made such a thing.
