Not disagreeing but I think a lot of bands are using them now as a quick break to grab some water and catch their breath away from the audience
I think it also benefits the fans too. A ten minute breather before absolutely losing it to the bands biggest songs makes sense
I've been away from the scene for awhile, but have in the past made artwork for bands like Dear Hunter, Emarosa (and a ton of Rise Records bands), Gatsby's among many others and was super into it for a long, long time. I'm curious what the scene looks like now? Most of the news and releases I see are the same bands from 10yrs ago — are there many new bands coming through? Where are you finding new music? Or has it evolved into new styles like Turnstile etc?
I feel like alternative radio is trying to rewrite history. They started playing a lot of Puddle of Mudd and Staind. It's just annoying. Those would have never played on those stations in the early 00's. Sorry, just yelling at the clouds here.
Yeah, I think you're the one rewriting history here. Nu-metal and post-grunge were huge on alternative in the 00s. Case in point, this was 2001's most played songs by year's end. https://www.popradiotop20.com/Year/RR-ALT-2001-Year.htm
This is a wild article https://www.theringer.com/music/202...-harry-styles-billie-eilish-lil-baby-jamie-xx
It should be pointed out that "momentum-stopping" is in no way a reflection on the quality of the albums. All it means is that after they released those albums, their ascension in the mainstream stalled.
I don't see how the albums have anything to do with it. All of those bands just took 4-5yrs off (or in the case of YYYs, indefinitely) before releasing new material
I really did like Shields at the time .... the other 3 I honestly don't think I've ever heard in full. All of them certainly DID stop any critical momentum that those bands had built up.
Long shot: does anybody have a Billboard subscription? Trying to access a specific chart from 2017 and they're locked unless you're a subscriber. And there's no monthly payment option to subscribe, only annually. And that's over $100.
Somehow never knew Kate Bush and Prince made a song together, but it is exactly what I would have expected
Has anyone heard of the band Sarah and the Sundays? I ran across their newest album The Living End recently, and I really like it. Very chill but upbeat.
Once in a while a song comes along that completely knocks me on my ass, not even necessarily the lyrics just the feeling of it. Right now this is that song: It's just perfect.
Very interesting. I’m not on TikTok and don’t read much discussion about it on here. Are any of the bands in this “scene” trying to go viral on TikTok? Or is that not the kind of art they want to make? Or something else?
I listened to Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love because of Stranger Things and I love it. I don’t really know anything about her or her music and thought it was just going to be an album full of 80s pop bangers. I was not expecting it to be so weird and I love it. A lot of the songs seem like they would be from a musical or something
This thread about resequencing Joyce Manor’s album was kinda wild. It made me wonder - what albums have you guys had issues with the sequencing and reordered?
