knowing better than the band themselves how to make the album they wanted to make is my least favorite bit on the internet. esp when it's men.
east side girls, wannabeher, big stick, buzzkiller are my faves after 10 or so listens. i think buzzkiller is my favorite of their album closers. love everything happening here tho, they really haven't missed on the last two records.
My only initial negative is that most of the album lives in the same sonic space and by the end I was kinda hankering for a bit more in the musical diversity side of things, like their last album, but I can't complain when all the songs are good
My brother in Christ you can not say that about an album that has both So What and Wannabeher otherwise the words “sonic space” have lost all meaning
"It's Gonna Be Okay, Baby" is what got me into the band and still my favorite song of theirs. It's perfect.
"Girl's Girl" sounds great, but I feel like the only person hearing the lyrics as the sort of entitled slut shaming we'd be condemning if it were a straight-coded "Guy's Girl"
I'm open to being wrong, but that's how it hit me on the first listen and every one since. Would love to hear other interpretations.
