I can't figure out if I liked this episode or if it jumped the shark entirely after so many seasons of goodwill.
I’ll withhold final judgment until the finale airs, but my initial thought is an alternate dimension automatically discredits the entire emotional journey Our Elliot has gone through...and also invalidates the whole plot of what’s happened since the first season. Everything is meaningless now, which seems to directly contradict the show’s entire message.
Yeah idk the episode kind of felt like filler and I would have preferred last night's episode to have aired instead. There were a few key things that were important for us to see, but I don't think it needed to span an entire episode?
First half of the episode was so, so fucking good. The opening scene with all the bodies? Whiterose’s “the old Taylor is dead” moment? Great stuff. That final exchange between Elliot and WR was some chef’s kiss television. The alt reality stuff — idk, we’ll see. I mean, a time machine or simulation is what a lot of us have expected of WR’s machine for a long time, the dissonance for me personally is that I did not think it would work, which it... apparently has? Just gonna reserve judgement until I can figure out what the hell is going on I definitely have thoughts about: - Angela’s mom apparently having gone missing (potentially by some kind of force?) - Darlene not existing in the new reality - An “earthquake” happening in the alt reality the night before Elliot suddenly wakes up in it but I’m having trouble typing them out coherently lol
At any other place in the show I’d probably have agreed, but I theorized last week that that was probably curtains for both of those characters, and with how this week’s episode went I think that’s probably true. So a full episode for them makes sense imo. It did feel oddly calm following the collapse of Deus though haha
Whiterose had more money and power than anyone in history. If anyone could figure out parallel universes, it’d be her.
I don't think Elliot was literally (or "physically") transported to another reality, I think this is going to be revealed as a manifestation of his Third (maybe his third personality is the "perfect" reality he was wishing for, marrying angela/having a good relationship with his father and the Elliot WE know is popping in like Mr Robot does to our elliot.) That said, if WR's machine actually worked and transported Elliot....I'm willing to allow that, if it's explained/handled well. This is going to be a long week and I really hope I don't die before I see the conclusion
Lmao I think this same thing every time I love the singles from an upcoming album or a show I like is ending. Glad to know I’m not the only one
This is how I feel too. Holding out on making an opinion until I see where Sam takes it in the finale.
I got that weird mixture of dread and excitement when those Dark Army guys found Elliot at the power plant and became immediately bummed when I realized those moments are coming to an end next week. Really gonna miss this show. Also I like 100% need one of those Dark Army masks for a quick Halloween costume
I find it very hard to believe it's fully an alternate reality, I still think it's in his head or a simulation that he was forced into
definitely understand the argument for the show jumping the shark, but I'm kind of here for it. besides finding out what the third personality is, I have no expectations for the finale. I'm just along for the ride.
That last episode was trippy af. I loved it, i watch this with closed captioning and it’s interesting to see how the soundtrack works into the story; eg, heroes and Villains In Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, this would be the point where the hero approaches the inmost cave, where Elliot does his fancy lil hacky thing and thinks he can slip out now... guess what, Not without apotheosis (note checkov’s novel on desk) first showdown with the shadow(white rose) and atonement with father(mr. robot obvi) refusal of return, would be the nuclear explosion but now he’s crossed over into another “realm” And he must become master of both worlds... My guess is he’s wired into some sort of machine that induces an immersive hallucination... White rose isn’t dead, The nuclear explosion didn’t happen it’s just a simulation, why his head keeps ringing or whatever.
Same, I’ve had a surprisingly easy time with watching this season week to week but right now I just cannot believe it’s only Tuesday
I've read elsewhere to watch the dream sequence from Season 1 ep 4 in relation to the most recent ep. Elliot walks in from under an EXIT sign (The most recent episode was called eXit) and then Angela is in her wedding dress and seemingly explains that he's only been this new person for a month (not Elliot) and then it cuts out just before she says who he is. This makes me feel a lot better than it's all been planned out and will tie together.
wild that Elliot hasn't spoken to "us" once this entire season. surely he's gotta break the silence before it ends
I’m fully in on board with what happened in the last episode after listening to the 2-Bit Encryption breakdown. There was lots of foreshadowing and details built that shows Sam clearly knew where this story was heading all along. Very excited for Sunday night.
