Beginning of the season. The first scene after the cold open we see Elliot introducing us to his new routine with I Monster's "Daydream in Blue" playing in the background. Immediate clue that Elliot's world is not what he's telling us.
So Ray was in prison too? How did the FBI arrest play into that? Wouldn't Darlene & Angela know he's been in prison and would have mentioned it? (sorry if these have been answered in the past)
Ray's exact role hasn't been explained, but it's safe to assume he's some type of admin at the prison. Darlene & Angela knew he was in prison. They've each visited him once. Both had very uncomfortable body language and met with Elliot in "his mom's kitchen".
I think as viewers, we were supposed to figure out this twist (and, TBH, I think the original Reddit post with the theory was someone who knew that Elliot was in prison; hell, it could have even been Esmail himself, he's randomly posted on /r/mrrobot before). Elliot was 100% aware the entire time that he was in prison (ie. he knew all along that it was a coping mechanism, unlike the Darlene/Mr. Robot twist that was a shock to us and Elliot) and we're seeing the show through Elliot's eyes (the "viewer" is a character in Elliot's head). Just an observation I've been thinking about the past few days.
I'm thinking that could have been a substitute for guards raiding his cell? And then in Elliot's head we just saw them as FBI. That's my guess right now, but have no clue if it's actually right. I think if they both already knew, maybe there wasn't a point to mention it? Might have seemed forced if they did. Again, just my guesses!
Doesn't seem likely that Ray is a fellow inmate. Doubt he would he have had internet access and a computer in his cell. And Elliot said he had sent it to the FBI. He may be an unreliable narrator but I don't see a reason to question that fact.
Hm I was under the impression he was mostly because of the whole playing chess together thing. FBI can still have a reason to raid someone in a prison if something is brought to their attention, especially a new crime being committed. Prisons do have internet access, though it's often only for staff. Maybe the other guy always with Ray in the room was a guard he paid off? There's a lot of possibilities there.
Best episode of the season, good to see the plot move forward after it moved at a glacial pace last week Cool moment when Joey Badass mentioned White Rose after killing those white gang members I agree. I wonder if he's off shooting a movie or something. There has to be a reason why they shafted the best character on the show
Also the karaoke rendition of Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears For Fears was yet another great music choice.
Great ep. Liked spending a whole ep with the fsociety team. I really dig what they've done with Angela's character this season.
Carly was amazing in this episode. I hope she gets some Best Supporting Actress hype from this one. Really interested to see where Darlene's arch goes next. She's been trying to put on a "mask" of being a strong leader but everything she's done has gone to shit. What's her next move now that she realizes that she was just a pawn used by the Dark Army to hack the FBI? And what will the fallout be from her (presumably) killing Cisco? I think this is really shaping up to be fsociety trying to stop Whiterose and the DA/Chinese govt from whatever it is they're doing. Sadly, it looks like Trenton is about to get offed by the Dark Army. Mobley won't be far behind her.
I had no idea she's Meryl Streep's daughter, that's insane!!! Nice Sopranos reference with the Trenton cliffhanger. I kinda think it's Elliot opening the door.
Yeah I was thinking that it was Elliot too. It being Dark Army would be a little too obvious. If it was them I think they would have revealed it instead of leaving it on a cliffhanger.
Is there a website that will just answer all of my random questions, because I still don't understand how the Ray/Elliott thing happened. I'm reading everyone's responses in here and am still confused
If you have some time to kill and want deeper explanation, I recommend listening to some of the podcasts discussing each episode. My favorites are "2-Bit Encryption" and "Post Show Recaps: Mr Robot".
I got it in the mail yesterday. They sent me a webcam cover, haha. I was holding out hope for Elliot's notebook, since the day they asked me for my address was the same day they announced that was for sale.
