True, I like it more then Run as well, though Run is good on its own, but just not as much for me. Well and it was a solo album for Tony, I think Greg from MovMou produced as well (with Rob Freeman from Hidden In Plain View) and so it happens the other guys in Prawn helped with the recording, but I wouldn't let them go that easy with it! Need to get another Prawn album in the future!
I will forever lament Prawn only doing those two songs with Yip and not a full album. That was such a match made in heaven. I love those two songs so much more than anything on Run.
So sorry for your friend haha! Though it is funny how people can dislike exactly what others find fitting and refreshing, like for example "almost rocking out, but not doing it" hahah ;D
I think they refrained from rocking out too heavily on their last album because that's what they did on Waves and some people didn't like it.
I don't think so to be honest, meaning I don't think they really gave a shit what people liked and just did what they wanted, had some different contributors, and definitely used some of their true influences like Red House Painters and The Appleseed Cast. They could definitely be letdown by the fact that whichever route they did take, there were lots of people whining at each direction, no way to please their own fanbase ;d which is too bad, I really admire all their work and return to the newer stuff the most for sure
Miss this band. anyone remember Greg’s side project Ansible? He put out a couple songs and remixes a loooong time ago but they’re impossible to find now. Very cool ambient-electronic with hushed vocals kind of vibe. Wondering if anyone here has access to those songs or know if they’re gone forever
I thought I had those Ansible songs but I can’t find them. Would love to hear them again. Went to Greg’s pizzeria a few weeks ago. As a baker myself, it was pretty cool seeing him in that setting. Food was good!
Here's one of his singles Steinway on his soundcloud. It's a shame he didnt pursue that project further.
that's an interesting question. how do we as music fans feel about a strictly studio band over a touring band?
I care very little about shows these days so I'd be very happy for bands to just make and release music.
I'd take that, it's rare that I get to see medium-sized bands getting anywhere near Poland anyways, the anniversary shows are almost always omitting EU. Albeit somehow still, I did see MovMou after Waves an hour and a half from my home town in a really small venue, we went out with the band after the show to a pub we knew in Cracow and played table soccer with them, talked about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for quite some time hahah. A really cool night. Now I'd really just hope for some new recorded material from some bands, that's for sure.
100% fine with it. The Republic of Wolves and their associated projects were mainly studio bands and they are fantastic. I get bands need live shows to build audiences and generate revenue, and if you are in attendance at a live show that can awesome, but as a fan for me it is non essential. If we lived in a world where music made enough money selling copies I think and like Moving Mountains could exist recording things in a studio if they want to. Specific to this band, I thought they were smart doing the Telegraph Sessions or whatever they were called so people could feel like they saw them live during their self titled tour even if they didn’t. Their music didn’t require a live sound with audience.
I’d take it. I love going to shows but it’s such a tiny fraction of how I experience music that I’d be more than happy if MovMou came back as just a studio band. Even if they only did a few local shows, I’d probably travel halfway across the country for one. I’ve never traveled that far for a show but I would for MovMou. I still kick myself that I didn’t fly to go see their last 2017 show with Foxing and Sorority Noise. I would be a little worried about seeing them live, that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. They’re my favorite band and I’ve seen some live videos of them on YouTube where the vocals are not the best.
I saw them on their last tour in Cambridge and it was great but yeah I’d take even one new song over a tour, they really were heading in a great direction
Frank (guitar/backing vocals through Waves) just released a new EP with his band "Caravela" recently: Easy Hell, by Caravela
