My only complaint about S/T is the vocals are similar, in a laid back whisper deliver for most of the songs. I wish there was a little more variety within the context of some songs, or from one song to the next. Music on the record is fantastic and even allows for it.
Yea if they just occasionally used the more agressive moments from waves it would be a cool mix but I also get that it was trying to do something different. I still need to listen to them way more. I don’t have as much time to listen to music as I want these days
I mean there definitely IS vocal variation on S/T. That’s how subtle, and amazing it is. Hudson, and Seasonal both have a different vibe vocally.
I'm not taking about going full out vocally, just not always holding back. A song like Hands is smooth throughout. Seasonal let's the guitars go full out instead of the vocals. Apsides is the song to me that just allows the vocals to be which I like.
The cascade is great and eastern leaves makes it better I think the vocals on the self titled are just about perfect. I don’t think more aggression would fit almost any of the songs at all
I don’t think that they’re all the restrained the whole time. Hudson, the chorus of seasonal, the end of eastern leaves, they’re all fairly unrestrained
Maybe the way they produced the vocals for 8/9 songs contributes to the restrained song. I like the telegraph sessions vocal versions better. They are not hugely different, just more present to me.
Entirely possible. Did he ever acknowledge that in an interview? I can't imagine having to pull that off night after night in a tour.
I don’t think he’s mentioned it, but based on seeing them live, I’ve noticed he goes an octave lower for the higher notes. Hopefully I’m wrong tho!
All of their albums hold a special place for me. I love Waves but the ST album is pretty damn close to perfect and Pneuma was a classic as soon as it was released.
I love all of their albums, though after being so addicted to Foreword every another LP came out as a letdown to me - only for a short period of time though, I think I like both of them more than the EP now... and their Moneen and IIOI guest spots on Cascade and Eastern Leaves are totally my thing.
I'll have to relisten but I honestly think he was a bad vocalist on waves and pneuma but on pneuma he knew his limits, whereas on waves he tried to outdo them S/t and prawn split suit his voice the best
I can agree on that as well, but just coming to the fact that he couldn't do all of that live, though on the album it sounds raw and emotive, I wouldn't change it. I was a little disappointed he used to sing the chorus in Chase Dream an octave lower, but at the same time it was totally understandable.
