owel is also on a super dope tour next year that i bet a lot of people here will be super excited about ...i've said too much already
They got better with each release outside of Pneuma to Waves, but the only releases I actually like a lot are s/t and New Light
New Light and S/T are light years ahead of the rest of the discography. And that being said I still really like the rest of their stuff. Waves is great.
yeah, only one spin but the Owel record was kind of disappointing... part of it has to do with the fact that someone was calling it something like "what MovMou would sound like if they released a new album" which raised expectations way high... but more than that... it is "pretty", but doesn't really grab me... feels more melodramatic than sincere, musically and lyrically I would say the Gates record is better
I def think it's pretty in line with the movmou tracks off the prawn split. Maybe with a little more emphasis on the vocals, but still
Yeah I've never been able to get into Owel either, I'll have to give their new record another chance.
i like Owel but i also can understand the "melodramatic more than sincere" comment. i often feel similarly when i listen to them but the songs are still rly good also Pneuma is my fav MovMou record for sure. changed my life, truly.
don't really care for most of the bands that get associated with them, athletics is probably best of the bunch
Haven't gotten really into Athletics like some people on this forum have, but they are good for sure.
Appleseed Cast are my favorite doing stuff in this style - undisputed kings but then MovMou's s/t and the split with Prawn follows close enough then I would say Prawn not that close after them, Gates the rest are meh
MovMou are what I consider to be the sub-genres' pinnacle. Gates, Owel, and Athletics are all great as well.
Listening to MoMu's self titled reminded me of The Felix Culpa's Sever Your Roots for some reason, that's one of my favs too. I think if they stuck around they would have gravitated to the style of those bands too
I put Felix Culpa in that ring too. Appleseed Cast, Felix Culpa, and MovMo are my favorite from that genre. I think MovMo is the best though.
