this album if anything is too consistent for me in the sense that after ghosts i cant really pick out any major discog highlights but its all still really great. houses is probably the closest for me to getting there though
Turns out this was my most-listened-to album this year, and I believe it. It's also funny to me to read that Waves was divisive at the time, because that was the album that got me into the band in the first place.
That's why it was divisive, as it wasn't a flop at all, but it turned some of the fans off, and brought them many new ones, as well as it just had plenty other reactions at the time. I was personally disappointed for like one night (I got really into post rock around that time and hoped for more of that sound), but then it was one of my most-listened-to records that year for sure hahh. With this new one I was so pleased right away of course, but also just spinned it so many times - I've listened to it like 2 or 3 times more than my other "top" albums
waves didnt connect with me until pretty recently but i appreciate it much more now than i ever have. the whole closing run is particularly unbelievable. i was just such a pneuma truther for years that it was hard for me to see it as its own thing. i never had that with the self titled though, swing set dissolved me right off the bat
i think i'm always gonna prefer the sound they perfected on pneuma and the foreward EP but this hit with me in ways that S/T and waves didn't come close to.

I love Waves, funnily enough it’s probably my most played MM album because it’s such a great driving record
This record really nails that alt-post-emo-rock sound that I've been looking out for years. It takes me back to scene staples like Futures or Pentimento's I, No Longer. It's not my most listened record of the year but it's one that I'll carry with me for a long time.
on the topic of cds and this band i really wish this album was available in that format lol, as much as i can just burn one it is not the same
Just reminding everyone to listen/consider this record when making your year end lists. Such a special band and album.
After listening to this album non-stop again over the last couple of weeks I now agree it is their best and my equal favourite
