Please do. I held off on ordering until I heard the full thing and it's basically all I've been playing since Friday.
Just curious if the Bandcamp copies are shipping after the others? I ordered the day it was announced from Bandcamp (first variant) before the price was raised and haven't seen any movement on my order...
Self Titled is still available for $25 for anyone that doesn't have it: Moving Mountains - Moving Mountains
This album deserves the same press recognition that Los Campesinos! (deservedly) received for All Hell last summer... I'm talking Pitchfork BNM, Ian Cohen spotlight piece, Stereogum's AOTW, etc... (yeah, I know it's wishful thinking and LC! is much more palatable to a "mainstream" indie rock audience, but dammit Greg & co deserve it)
To piggy back off of this, I went down a bit of a rabbit whole with Brendan's music. Absolutely wonderful stuff, he's incredibly talented. In 2020, He had a short lived side project and released Holy Andromada - Sounds Mirrors. In 2022, he also uploaded an EP onto Soundcloud: Brendan Rivera - Abandoned EP. "Ran out of money and words to write."
the only band I’ve found that hits the same spot in my brain as movmou in recent years has been caracara
revisiting the Prawn split and Abby Normal has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. every second of that track is completely transcendent. the way the song flows feels like an uninterrupted and comprehensive fluid thought that builds up to the monumental line [“Just let me forget what I said, what I got, and all the people that I met”], the lyrical centerpiece of the song imo, and releases shortly after. it’s so good. they really nailed the strings on that EP too. Phenomenal touch and I can’t imagine the songs without them.
The albums that remind me of MovMou’s S/T (and also Pruning) that haven’t been mentioned already are Seer Believer’s Bent and Pale Lungs’ S/T
For those of you trying to scratch that Waves itch, How to Disappear by Casey from last year was kinda reminded me of that.
