First few listens down: wowza this is amazing. So worth the wait and so lucky to have one of my favorite back at it.

 

Have never cared for Pneuma or Waves really much at all tbh, for some reason I’m cool with Foreword and it may be that there are less vocals/more space in the music. New Light is where this band really starts for me. For whatever it’s worth I really like The Appleseed Cast lol

 

maybe Mare Vitalis but you can hear the influence in pretty much everything they ever put out. Absolutely incredible band btw, highly recommend giving them another chance. At least check out Illumination Ritual or Two Conversations, both of which I hear elements of in Pruning actually.

 

Makes sense, they put it out when they were 16. Give it another chance when you’re feeling open to it. The closer is an all-timer.

i would also recommend New Light which are remakes of the old songs in the S/T-era style. and check out the Prawn split too- those two songs are unreal.

 

Hell yeah, I feel Illumination Ritual gets overlooked but but it might actually be my favorite from them. Two Conversations would be a close second though

 

yeah i think the rough edges to pneuma became pretty endearing for me when i realized its literally an album by a bunch of high schoolers lol. theres a pure raw euphoria to it that i dont think anything else has quite captured, but theyve made up for it by being great in different ways

 

Had no idea about that and it makes me appreciate it even more.

 

Two conversations is the one closest to this album imo

 

Def my fav by them. The drumming on IR is mind-blowing

 

The Appleseed Cast, now there's a GOATed band

 

Will do, did not know that. I only got through track 2-3 before I went back to the new one.

 

Try going reverse order. Self titled downward.

 

Gotta go with Peregrine, there’s just something special about that one for me. Sagarmatha is up there too.

 

Two Conversations is their most accessible album. I think that's a good place to start.

 

Wait, have you not listened to the self titled? That’s definitely the place to start if you liked this one

 

Yeah I like that one a lot. I've only heard that and this one in full.

 

Gates’ Parallel Lives is another good recommendation if you enjoy the S/T and this

I haven’t listened to Gates in ages, time to dust off Bloom and Breathe

 

oh, i gotcha. these are, unfortunately, the only two that really sound like this

 

i would say people here might also, if youre seeking more in this vein, enjoy the band overgrow, the album everyone ive ever loved by valleyheart, and the album blood on my guitar by saint 44

 

Damn, USPS had my vinyl delivery date for next Monday, but it came today. Rad. Will be spinning this later. Didn’t expect this variant to be slightly transparent too, looks fully opaque in the photos I’ve seen!
