It's kind of fitting for their vibe that they released this with basically no fanfare, but also I wish there was a bit more of a promotional push since it's such an incredible album and more people need to hear it.
I was gonna say it's the first album since Waves with no bigger vocal feat, I did start thinking about who could they possibly use - and though of Tony Clark! And now I see he's actually there hahh! (where though?! I need to listen to it a few more times it seems)
not really feeling this one so far unfortunately; hoping it can be a grower, especially since everyone else seems to be all about it. i felt an instantaneous connection to the self titled and the prawn split on my first goes, so i’m probably not being fair to it definitely going to give this more attempts though as i adore the band and can definitely see myself enjoying it once i’m more familiar with it. i can tell there’s a ton of meat to it too deeper in the mix which is exciting. definitely agree that the production is top notch
very excited to finally get to this once i get off from work. my favorite movmou was always pneuma so tbh im not even going in with expectations in what i want out of a direction lol, just excited to see what inspires them
Just one I hear/know of - Evan Weiss (IIOI, Pet Symmetry) on "Eastern Leaves", it's quite a big part. Same with Kenny Bridges (Moneen) on "The Cascade" before
Some of these songs remind me so much of The Goo Goo Dolls. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
listening now and thoroughly enjoying. feels like an enlivened s/t era MovMou. also hearing Goo Goo Dolls, a bit of Pianos Become the Teeth. I will always want more Pneuma-vibes, which as an album feels like a shot of sunlight in the veins to me. but this is still really great.
Both this and S/T make me think of how good The New Frontiers would have been if they had stayed together.
just finished my first listen. my impression is that it's a great album without knocking me on my ass, probably a grower. I think I was hoping for them to stretch their sound beyond that of "the scene," and to break into new territory. I continue to wonder how cool it would be for them to add more eclectic instrumentation and experiment with song structures, bring in non-"alt rock" elements and reinvent themselves all over again. while this album does not do that, it's still very much a solid addition to their catalogue and I look forward to listening again and hearing it live.
