Definitely its own thing, love the drums, the chords and tones, all the layers, but at the same time it feels like it's straight up their most punk rock output to date. Definitely song-driven, I'll be listening to this throughout the whole summer for sure
Same. Punk rock... I'm very intrigued but was kind of expecting a self titled pt. 2 after hearing ghosts. I'm on board for punk rock though
I might've spoken more on a feeling than a genre itself (while mentioning punk rock), but it does carry some surprise elements down the road - I also agree it still sounds very familiar, there's tons of ambience and droning notes
I def hear it myself, not on all the songs but most obviously Snow on Norris street when the drums switch up, All Here and Wedding Clothes both have “brighter” sounding chords compared to their past work
Gonna make some coffee and sit on the patio and listen to this in the morning cause my boss is off tomorrow
Cracking a beer and diving in! Wife’s at a girls movie night and I’m off work tomorrow, boutta blast this sucker through the rokit 6s haha
I've just listened to it once and have some thoughts. I can't believe we're living in a timeline where this is happening. This is all I could ever hope for and want it to be. I'm going to be listening to this for decades to come. Contrary to what was mentioned before, I feel like this kinda is a retread of S/T but I really don't care because S/T is my favorite album of all time. The songs on here are so good that they stand up on their own even if it musically/tonally sounds a lot like S/T. It's not like this is a lesser copy or anything. This is so special.
Second listen is much more enjoyable already, Voices is the standout this time. Really chill vibe and then some great dynamics on that one
Oh my god I was kidding about the forbidden beat lmao I can’t believe they went there. I did not give the song that followed the attention it deserved because I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment
This is a wonderful record and a perfect response to their absence. It does so much of what you want it to without ever feeling like they’re trying to recapture something. Someone commented on it earlier, but yeah there are a lot more major chords going on here that give these songs a more triumphant feel. It’s a lot less “moody” than s/t but certainly has its moments. I can’t believe how HUGE everything sounds - some the bass tones and drums especially are just so, so well done I know it’s a thing online to be like “I’m crying” when hearing music or whatever and I never know how much of it is true, it’s certainly something that has only happened to me a couple of times - but I definitely teared up during this. Had to go back, but specifically 1:57 in All Here and 3:13 in Houses - just incredible sections right there. Houses had to be my standout on first listen Long live this band man
don’t really know what to say other than I love it. I have a lot of emotional attachment to this band for a lot of reasons. I don’t see this changing here.
Yeah, normally I'm a little skeptical about that too, but I believe anyone on this thread given how special this is.
