Bright also feels like a good contender for this thread, lol. Every once in a while I think about how someone actually wrote the line "ELF LIVES MATTER" or whatever and get mad that they don't let me write movies instead of the nepo baby sex pests of hollywood
max landis' best contribution to society, and even that is debatable, is his Wrestling Isn't Wrestling video Chronicle was cool though
Sometimes I peek over at his Youtube channel because he seems to have slowly gone insane since cancellation. I think he wrote a Superman feature starring himself for a community theater or something, lmao
Bright was basically a ripoff of another film with a slight twist. It was 1988's LA set sci-fi cop drama Alien Nation, but with fantasy orcs instead of aliens. I also remember listening to a clip of a pod he did where he would try to impress people by pitching a movie like it was a party trick or something. He pitched "A reimagining of Peter Pan from Captain Hook's pov where he is the sympathetic protagonist". such a fucking hack lol
Just peeked and he made a 3hr and 20 minute full Superman film posted to YouTube six months ago...also starring himself. Lmao.
oh yeah i remember this, it was on nerdist or id10t or whatever the Chris Hardwick pod was called at that time
I almost watched this on many a flight. I’ve still never seen it, but the trailer pops into my head every now and then. I’d say it exists because of that.
“American Ultra” seemed like such a fun concept and had a decent trailer, plus an “Adventureland” reunion. Instead, it was all mean-spirited and awful. It’s crazy that Max Landis got so many shots at mainstream movies.
Also, he directed an Ariana Grande music video? How high was Hollywood in the 2010s that he wrote one decent movie and a cool short so they gave him the world?
just because john landis killed those kids doesn't mean his children can't get undeserved opportunities from his cohorts
The “Coming to America” episode of Netflix’s “The Movies That Made Us” has a John Landis interview that basically boils down to “Look at this asshole.”
Not a movie, but his TV adaptation Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was a pretty fun show imo.
