I saw that movie on HBO because I was a horny middle school student. There’s a scene where Ross snorts a line of Coke off a woman’s fake breasts.

It was one the year’s best films, and you all don’t remember? And you call yourselves cinephiles.

Don’t know if this qualifies, since I guess it had a second life after Jimin from BTS said it inspired him to write a song about it.

Still, a very funny premise on paper where a guy (RIP Anton) is separated from the person he loves because of a visa and has to settle for Jennifer Lawrence.

I would consider October Sky to be the number one "shown at school" movie for the late 90s/early 00s

late to the party but I honestly had a really good time with The Electric State.

and The Woman in Cabin 10 (the novel) is like a super huge mega bestseller, so I'm not sure the movie fits here (though by all accounts it's not very good).

i never heard of the book or the movie, but all is welcome in this thread, and the electric state sounds familiar, glad you enjoyed it!

Gattaca has been thoroughly re-evaluated and it is usually considered a major film nowadays. It did bomb at the time, though.

I remember someone once said that October Sky was the first movie released directly to schools. It definitely felt like it.
